Has anyone noticed any issues related to workstations following the most recent Chrome upgrade? |
12:45 |
csharp |
rfrasur: can you be more specific? |
12:45 |
Dyrcona |
rfrasur Such as? |
12:46 |
rfrasur |
Yeah, the workstations needing to be reregistered constantly. And possibly anything related to any fields not loading correctly. It hasn't been widespread here, but there's been an uptick. The not loading fields are related to the dropdown to record externally processed credit card payments. |
12:47 |
Dyrcona |
Well, I was monologing on Monday about a library's mysterious workstation names, and it seems that staff had registered a workstation with 3 names over the previous 3 weeks or so. It could be related. |
12:48 |
rfrasur |
Those two issues have not happened on the same machines. But the uptick in the workstation issues with the timing of the browser update may correspond but not correlate. Trying to decide how much brain power to put into it. |
12:50 |
Dyrcona |
Right after Chrome 89 cam out we had to install a patch for something. I'll search my notes/tickets. We also don't allow credit card processing at the workstations. We remove the option from the payment drop down. Patrons have to pay via the OPAC to pay with a credit card here. |

Local disk being "low" on storage and Chrome profile/sync usage are the usual culprits for "hey, where'd my local storage go"? |

Dyrcona: the patch, I believe was for the Save & Exit in the holdings editor not exiting. |

my workstation needed to be re-registered mysteriously yesterday... that was on firefox though |
12:54 |
sandbergja |
and I was in a rush, so didn't pay much attention to it |
12:54 |
sandbergja |
(plays twilight zone music) |
12:54 |
Dyrcona |
mmorgan: That is correct. I just found the ticket in our local ticket system. |
12:56 |
Dyrcona |
rfrasur: We had 1 library report that "Evergreen not responding when screen has been left for a few minutes," which turns out to me if they leave it for a bit the tab where Evergreen was open doesn't respond to clicks unless they open a new tab. |
12:56 |
Dyrcona |
s/me/mean/ |
12:58 |
rfrasur |
Dyrcona, we don't allow credit card processing from the workstation either, but the option still hangs out there and confuses everyone. |
12:58 |
rfrasur |
jeff, that's an interesting thought. That I'll think more about. |
13:00 |
Dyrcona |
rfrasur: We deleted it from the template. |
13:00 |
rfrasur |
sandbergja, interesting............but my own local storage (in my brain) is "low" and unable to complete that thought action because other processes are still running. |
13:00 |
rfrasur |
Dyrcona, that would be optimal. I don't have that kind of access/power/knowledge. |
13:01 |
Dyrcona |
rfrasur: You can let someone who does have that access there know. |
13:01 |
Dyrcona |
jeff: Syncing Chrome profiles can lead to local storage loss? |
13:02 |
Dyrcona |
I don't use sync. |
13:06 |
Dyrcona |
We also had a report this morning of a search progress box not going away automatically after the patron search had finished. |
13:07 |
rfrasur |
Hmm. Words. Thoughts. Excedrin. Naps. |
13:07 |
sandbergja |
Getting a question about OPAC payments: is there a way of setting limits on what types of bills can be paid via credit card (e.g. allow fines but not replacement for lost books)? Or to set a limit on amount of $$$ that a patron can pay through the OPAC? |
13:08 |
Dyrcona |
sandbergja: I don't think so, not without development of some kind. caveat: I could be wrong. |
13:08 |
rfrasur |
sandbergja, the only limit I know of is our local setting that requires all or none cc payment through OPAC. Beyond that, I'm not sure how configurable it is. |
13:10 |
mmorgan |
sandbergja: There's a way to set a minimum payment amount, in a TPAC tt2 file, I believe. Not sure if that means a max can be set. Looking for that... |

relevant to the earlier conversation about Chrome, this can be useful to see a medium-level summary of changes/features by Chrome major version (milestone): https://www.chromestatus.com/features#milestone%3D89 |
13:22 |
JBoyer |
rfrasur, do you mean it's possible to try to enter a card number into the client or it's confusing that staff can select CC payments at all? Because they need to be able to select CC as a payment type for the payments they process at the desk with an external card processor or whatever they do locally. |
13:23 |
JBoyer |
sandbergja, there's no configuration re: what you can pay in the OPAC with a CC except removing / hiding all of the checkboxes to force it to default to "all" |
13:23 |
rfrasur |
It's possible to try to enter a card number into the client. |
13:23 |
rfrasur |
That was hidden before. It's now been exposed since the upgrade. |
13:24 |
JBoyer |
:-/ |
13:24 |
