the upgrade came off brilliantly, and it's all because of SOCKS proxy |

Since we've started using holds stalling, our users are frustrated when they must find the exact barcode on their pull list. This only happens when the hold needs to go in transit, local holds will capture any copy. Is this an issue for anyone else? Is it intended behavior? |

mmorgan: not using stalling here (yet?), so not an issue. i can imagine how/why it happens, though i can't say if it's "intended" behavior. |
12:38 |
jeff |
mmorgan: i suspect it can be fixed, regardless. |
12:40 |
jeff |
it's potentially "accident" that pulling an equivalent item with a different barcode (usually) works, due to opportunistic capture. |
12:41 |
jeff |
i'd have to double check, but there might not be much/any performance impact in considering other copies when stalling is in effect. you're already looking for local holds for the (different barcode) copy... |
12:42 |
jeff |
that may or may not answer your question. |
12:45 |
* mmorgan |
would love to see it fixed. Not capturing equivalent copies to the one on the pull list causes extra work and frustration for staff members. |
12:46 |
mmorgan |
by '"accident" that pulling an equivalent item with a different barcode (usually) works' do you mean without stalling or with? |

mmorgan: I mean without stalling, where nothing prevents the copy from being captured under the opportunistic mechanism. |

Cocopuff2018: That's a broad question, and the answer depends on what you want to do with Evergreen. |
15:40 |
Cocopuff2018 |
i want to use it for a public libary |

Cocopuff2018: Does the abacus count itself? |

Cocopuff2018 |
no |
15:41 |
Cocopuff2018 |
i just wanna figure out how to get my library started with evergreen |
15:42 |
Dyrcona |
Cocopuff2018: How big is your library, and have you looked at any alternatives? |
15:42 |
Cocopuff2018 |
about 300 and no alternatives. |
15:43 |
Dyrcona |
About 300 what, patrons, items, branches? |
15:43 |
Cocopuff2018 |
2 branches and 200 partons |
15:44 |
Cocopuff2018 |
will we be able to get me set up |
15:46 |
Dyrcona |
Cocopuff2018: I'd suggest that you also take a look at Koha: https://koha-community.org/ |
15:46 |
Cocopuff2018 |
ok but how do i get started with evagreen system? |
15:47 |
Dyrcona |
To get started with Evergreen you need 1) a Linux server host, preferably a recent release of Debian or Ubuntu. |
15:48 |
Dyrcona |
2) You need to download and install OpenSRF: https://evergreen-ils.org/opensrf-downloads/ |
15:48 |
Dyrcona |
3) You need to download and install Evergreen: https://evergreen-ils.org/egdownloads/ |
15:49 |
Cocopuff2018 |
will evagreen charge me money |
15:51 |
Dyrcona |
No. It's free as in beer, freedom, and kittens. |
15:51 |
Cocopuff2018 |
and does this host multiple Branches |
15:53 |
Dyrcona |
Evergreen is designed for consortia of multiple libraries. For instance, I work for a consortium of 150+ libraries in Massachusetts with over 300 branches, all using the same Evergreen installation. |

Cocopuff2018: These might help: https://wiki.evergreen-ils.org/doku.php?id=faqs:evergreen_faq_1 |
15:54 |
Cocopuff2018 |
nice i would need someone to build this for me |
15:55 |
jihpringle |
Cocopuff: there are a number of companies that offer hosting services, some of them are listed here: https://wiki.evergreen-ils.org/doku.php?id=faqs:evergreen_companies |
15:56 |
Cocopuff2018 |
do they build it for me |
15:56 |
Dyrcona |
jihpringle++ # I was just about to paste that link. |
15:56 |
Dyrcona |
Cocopuff2018: One of the companies may host it for you for a fee. That could be the best route for you if you're not prepared to run it yourself. |
15:57 |
Cocopuff2018 |
if i do it on my own its free? |
15:58 |
Dyrcona |
Cocopuff2018: There's no charge for the software. You'll have to pay for a server, electricity, etc. You can host it yourself, rent a server, etc. |
15:59 |
Dyrcona |
If you hire someone to set it up for you, they will likely charge you for their time, etc. |
15:59 |
jihpringle |
Cocopuff2018: if you haven't already, I'd recommend trying out Evergreen on one of the community demo servers to see whether or not Evergreen would suit your needs |

Can somebody help me with the new emergency_closing feature? |
17:19 |
devted |
I have several emergency closings set at both system and branch level, with overlapping closed dates, and this LP comes into play I think: https://bugs.launchpad.net/evergreen/+bug/1869728 |
17:20 |
pinesol |
Launchpad bug 1869728 in Evergreen "Emergency closure processing fails if overlap existing closed date" [High,Confirmed] |
17:22 |
devted |
For 4 different closing definitions in actor.org_unit_closed, the Closed Dates Editor shows 0/0 in the processing summary [0/0 processed cirdulations; 0/0 processed hold; 0/0 porcessed reservations] |
17:23 |
|

17:23 |
devted |
So no circs, holds, or reservations were affected; Can I just then delete these all from the Closed Dates editor? |
17:25 |
devted |
And question #2: I found some in-limbo circs and holds for an emergency closing that's in the past. How do I make that one disappear from the Closed Dates Editor? |
