11:46 Dyrcona I have two Apache processes running at 100% CPU on the same brickhead and I'm reluctant to kill them because I don't know what they're doing.
11:47 Dyrcona My syslog setup doesn't include the Apache PID.
12:04 csharp Dyrcona: strace?
12:29 JBoyer csharp++
12:30 JBoyer Depending on where they're spinning that may not show anything, but it's usually informative.
12:30 JBoyer There's also cat /proc/<pid>/stack - that will at least let you see *something* even if strace is a bust.

12:33 JBoyer berick, I'm looking at lp 1888723, specifically commit 0e87bf2f31bd18778332a1669759476cf9238d39 - I'm getting a compiler error that fleshBibUsers doesn't exist on BibRecordService. Is that tangled up in another commit, out of date, or something else?
12:33 pinesol Launchpad bug 1888723 in Evergreen "Holdings and Item Attributes Editors (VolCopy) Angular Port" [Wishlist,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/1888723
12:34 berick JBoyer: ah, it needs a rebase after the Ang cat code was merged
12:34 berick i can do that
12:34 JBoyer berick++
12:35 JBoyer I managed the simple route change from the Ang10 upgrade but didn't realize how much else had changed.
12:44 sandbergja I finished going through the installation steps for Evergreen, and am getting 500 errors whenever I try to go to anything template toolkit-based (staff client, OPAC).  Angular works fine, and I can access the XUL directory and various extras
12:45 sandbergja I double checked permissions of the relevant directories, and everything seems fine to me
12:45 sandbergja (I always use automated installers, so I hardly ever have to troubleshoot this kind of thing)
12:46 sandbergja Any tips?
12:48 sandbergja and I've restarted apache and osrf_control about a hundred times at this point hahaha
12:49 csharp sandbergja: the apache or opensrf logs should show details of the error (depending on how logs are set up in opensrf_core.xml)
12:50 csharp in my case, it's usually a missing perl dependency or something like that
12:50 berick JBoyer: user/berick/lp1888723-angular-volcopy-2 -- posted to LP

12:50 JBoyer Thanks!

12:54 sandbergja csharp: aha!  It's a permission issue after all
12:54 sandbergja Like ALWAYS
12:54 sandbergja it was in syslog, so I wasn't finding it in the apache and osrfsys logs
12:55 sandbergja But opensrf_core.xml told me where to look
12:55 sandbergja csharp++
12:57 jeff What was the permission issue?
12:57 sandbergja hahahaha I had the permissions wrong on osrfsys.log itself, so nothing could even log what was going wrong

13:27 Dyrcona csharp | JBoyer : strace tells me that they're spinning on getpeername() and fcntl(), so guess I'll kill them. Also, something tells me I should install updates.

15:59 ahelten I'm the admin for a small school library that has used evergreen since version 1.4. Since I'm a volunteer at the school and the software generally just keeps humming along, I only upgrade the server (and linux as necessary) every 2 years or so. This is the year. Unfortunately, I find "TBD" in the table row labeled "Upgrading" on the downloads page.
15:59 ahelten This has always been a link to a well-documented step-by-step procedure (that, yes, was mostly boilerplate from release-to-release). Is there a new upgrade procedure? Am I looking at the right downloads page?
16:05 Dyrcona ahelten: There is not necessarily a new upgrade procedure, and it seems you are looking at the correct downloads page.
16:07 Dyrcona ahelten: When you extract the tarball, you will find the upgrade instructions in docs/installation/server_upgrade.adoc.
16:08 Dyrcona If you have an asciidoc tool handy you can make a HTML or PDF version that might be easier to read.
16:09 ahelten Ah, ok, I'll grab the tarball. I had switched to using the git repo about 4 years ago (past 2 upgrades).
16:09 Dyrcona ahelten: It's in the same place in the git repo.
16:12 Dyrcona What version are you upgrading from?
16:13 ahelten 3.1.3
16:13 ahelten I was planning to go to 3.5.1 -- does that make sense.
16:14 Dyrcona That's fine. You'll just have to do each upgrade along the way as normal. I was just curious how far you have to go.
16:15 Dyrcona We usually skip a couple of versions when we upgrade.
16:15 Dyrcona ahelten: Good luck!
16:16 ahelten That's what I've been doing and it has worked well. As you say, it's just mostly applying the database patches. I'll feel more confident about it with the doc you referenced above. Didn't know about that document -- thanks much!
16:19 Dyrcona You're welcome.
