11:01 Bmagic Those of you using linux for desktop, what's your flavor? Ubuntu desktop? or maybe Ubuntu server?
11:05 bshum Bmagic: I liked Ubuntu desktop, but I got used to Unity.  Not sure how things will be with Gnome coming back.  There were quirks when I last tried it, but I guess it's been years, so probably has improved okay.
11:07 bshum For me, Linux support for HiDPI screens was always my worry point.  With laptops having exceedingly nice set of pixels, the scaling in certain Linux desktop GUIs didn't always keep up well.
11:07 bshum But my eyes are terribad.
11:07 bshum If you can see the small print, you'll be okay with it :)
11:09 Bmagic I was compiling hatch on fedora 21, having issues getting the jdk
11:09 Bmagic anyone have hatch running on any fedora version?
11:09 bshum Fedora 21 sounds pretty old.  Thought it was up to 25+ now
11:09 Bmagic yeah, it's old
11:09 Bmagic by fedora standards
11:09 bshum I haven't played with Hatch at all.
11:10 bshum Bmagic: So you didn't get Monday off, or you just poking about anyways :)
11:10 Dyrcona joined #evergreen
11:10 Bmagic no, I'm at work today :(
11:10 Dyrcona Me, too, unfortunately.
11:10 bshum I hear you, so am I
11:10 Dyrcona Though work is my dining room table.
11:11 Dyrcona And things are not going well. I'm get the "ReferenceError: Can't find variable: angular" with grunt all on Ubuntu 16.04.
11:12 bshum Dyrcona: With 2.12?
11:12 Dyrcona I'm just gonna force it, since everything else has had some issue or another today.
11:12 Dyrcona Yes.
11:13 Dyrcona bshum knows what fun I've already had this morning..... :)
11:14 Dyrcona Great, the make install failed on /openils/var/updates.... Thanks, NFS!
11:15 Dyrcona And, I forgot bower again.
11:15 Bmagic I've learned my lesson wth NFS also
11:15 Dyrcona Bmagic: So have, at least once or twice a year for 15+ years. :)
11:29 Dyrcona Such fun!
11:30 Dyrcona I forget... When replication is catching up, what's the indication that the replicant is ready to accept connections?
11:31 Dyrcona Maybe I should ask in #postgresql, but I don't feel like getting flamed with RTFM.
11:31 dbwells Bmagic: re: desktop Linux, I've mostly used Ubuntu server with added desktop packages, but I am taking a hard look at Elementary OS (based on Ubuntu) right now.  Nothing is perfect, but I like the general direction they are pushing things, and hope they are able to keep it going.  I only run Linux desktop on secondary machines, though.
11:32 Dyrcona That got behind, 'cause 1 server was still down when the other added the route, so no route to host.... :)
11:32 Dyrcona I have used Slackware, RedHat 6, Debian, and Ubuntu on the desktop.
11:32 Dyrcona My favorite desktop O/S is FreeBSD. :)
11:33 bshum dbwells: Elementary was intriguing when I played with it a couple years back.  With Ubuntu/Debian derived systems, I found that I could add most apt repo sources and pretend I was running a more mainline distro to grab various packages as needed.
11:33 Dyrcona I'm going to order a new laptop with no O/S later this week.
11:33 Dyrcona I'm torn between Slackware and FreeBSD for the desktop, but I may end up sticking with Ubuntu, despite systemd.
11:34 Dyrcona I think it will come down to managing virtual machines.
11:34 Dyrcona I like to make development vms on my laptop.
11:39 Dyrcona I'm also considering OpenBSD 6.2...And, hey! There's the release announcement in my inbox!

12:36 Bmagic sweet!
13:05 Bmagic so, Oracle publishes java for OSX: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jdk8-downloads-2133151.html
13:05 Bmagic What is wrong with using that for hatch?
13:05 Dyrcona Yes.
13:06 Dyrcona Nothing, just be sure to only install the free parts.
13:06 Dyrcona IIRC, Oracle bundles non-free (as in beer) stuff in those downloads.
13:06 Bmagic hmmm, I am attempting to help one of our libraries setup hatch on OSX
13:06 Dyrcona They have been known to come after sites using the non-free stuff who haven't paid.
13:07 Dyrcona All you need are the JRE and JavaFX, if the latter is a separate option.
13:09 Bmagic I thought the README said you need the jdk when compiling (OSX needs to compile hatch right?)
13:09 sandbergja joined #evergreen
13:10 Bmagic I believe hatch.sh references javac
13:10 Dyrcona You do need the JDK when compiling, but the whole point of Java is compile once run everywhere.
13:10 Bmagic agreed
13:10 Dyrcona If you're compiling on Mac OS X, then you will need the JDK.
13:11 Dyrcona I assumed you had already compiled hatch elsewhere and were just trying to install it on OS X.
13:11 Bmagic ok, just making sure we are on the same page
13:11 khuckins joined #evergreen
13:11 Bmagic I suppose I could compile it on my linux machine, and run it on OSX?
13:12 Dyrcona Should be able to. I've compiled it on Linux and had it run on Windows.
13:13 Dyrcona It even makes a Windows installer.
13:22 Bmagic right, alright, I'll give it a whirl
13:42 csharp Bmagic: I'm very happily on Fedora 26 (GNOME) - 27 is in beta right now
13:42 * csharp disappears as quickly as he appears
15:05 Bmagic charp: thanks! Glad to have a fedora fan out there! It seems that we are a rare anymore
15:19 csharp Bmagic: dbs is also a Fedora user
