Good morning all! I was curious if anyone has a monitoring script for clark-kent or open-ils.search? Both regularly just die on us, and we'd like to have them autostart if they die. (Yes, I know, I should debug them to figure out why they're dying and fix them, but I have bigger fish to fry at the moment!) |
11:13 |

In case anyone else plays with Debian 9, curious if we all fail on trying to startup opensrf.math -- https://gist.github.com/anonymous/5e8c83db6d0884130a03045ae21c820b |
11:14 |
berick |
bshum: isn't that a good ol' fashioned ldconfig / LD_LIBRARY_PATH issue? |
11:15 |
bshum |
berick: Perhaps, but if that's the case then something has changed in how it reads it |
11:15 |
bshum |
Cause I have the entry in the ld.so.conf.d/opensrf.conf to point at /openils/lib |
11:15 |
Dyrcona |
bshum: Did you run ldconfig after? |
11:15 |
bshum |
Yes |
11:16 |
bshum |
I'll check Debian docs to see if something's changed in this area... |
11:16 |
Dyrcona |
I certainly hope not. |
11:18 |
berick |
wonder if it would work after a reboot. could also test by manually exporting LD_LIBRARY_PATH to see what happens. |
11:19 |
Dyrcona |
I've been meaning to build a Debian 9 vm to kick the tires. |
11:19 |
Dyrcona |
I may do that sooner rather than later. |
11:20 |
bshum |
I'll try a reboot now |
11:20 |
bshum |
Fwiw, I think Graham's bug on https://bugs.launchpad.net/evergreen/+bug/1707549 is likely to affect Debian 9 since it comes with Perl 5.24 too |
11:20 |
pinesol_green |
Launchpad bug 1707549 in Evergreen "open-ils.storage fails to start with perl >= 5.24" [Undecided,New] |
11:20 |
bshum |
I clearly haven't gotten that far yet. But baby steps |
11:21 |
bshum |
Reboot had no effect, still won't startup |
11:31 |
Dyrcona |
I'd run ldconfig again. |
11:37 |
bshum |
well, I did that, no joy |
11:37 |
bshum |
ldconfig -v does show it is grabbing something |
11:37 |
bshum |
/openils/lib: |
11:37 |
bshum |
libopensrf.so.2 -> libopensrf.so.2.1.1 |
11:37 |
bshum |
So it's in there somewhere, it's just refusing to load the math stuff |
11:37 |
berick |
bshum: you have /openils/lib/osrf_math.so ? |
11:38 |
bshum |
berick: Yes I can see that installed with the sym links ,etc |

will ponder this further after going to pickup his lunch |
11:49 |
bshum |
Well that's fun, if I add the /openils/lib direct in my .bashrc as export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:/openils/lib |
11:50 |
bshum |
Then it works |
11:50 |
* bshum |
will have to check what they did different in Debian 9 with ldconfig |
11:50 |
berick |
was wondering. for reasons I no longer remember I still add LD_LIBRARY_PATH to opensrf's bashrc on new installs. |
11:51 |
berick |
would like to avoid doing that, so I'll be curious what you find |

pgardella: we monitor services with nagios/icinga. For Clark Kent we just use the check_procs plugin documented here: https://www.monitoring-plugins.org/doc/man/check_procs.html |
12:17 |
jeffdavis |
We're not auto-restarting since I generally want to take a look if a monitored service goes down. |
12:23 |

pgardella: also, for open-ils.search dying, you might want to look at bug 1697029 if you haven't already |

Hi all, I have a question, Does the receipt template aditor are saved in an especific table in EG? or are saved locally on each machine? This because I upgraded from 2.8.4 to 2.12.3 and the templates looks like they were set to the default ones |
13:36 |
Dyrcona |
francisco_: Receipts are stored in the staff client preferences. If you have the old staff client hanging around, you can export them. It has to be the staff client where they were created or imported, though. |

News from qatests: Test Success <http://testing.evergreen-ils.org/~live> |
16:33 |
gsams_ |
A little while back I had an issue regarding not being able to pull up the patron editor properly for a handful of patrons, which was fixed by removing some incorrect information in those patrons' sms notify fields. |
16:33 |
gsams_ |
I'm having a slightly different issue with the same set of patrons, in which we can't seem to place holds for them. |
16:34 |
gsams_ |
It doesn't fill in their information when attempting to place a hold through the staff client, and the box that should contain their barcode is empty. |
16:34 |
gsams_ |
When filled in, it doesn't change any of the information, or update in any way. The submit button remains greyed out. |
16:37 |
jeff |
interesting! are you able to gather errors from the staff client javascript console? your user might need debug permissions in order to access that console... |
16:37 |
gsams_ |
jeff: I keep forgetting about that, I should be able to take a look |
16:38 |
jeff |
gsams_: you'll likely want to clear the console just prior to taking the action that's likely to fail, and you might want to start by limiting to errors. |
16:39 |
jeff |
i think at the time, the problem with the patron editor was invalid data in user settings, possibly related to hold notification preferences. is it possible that the affected users are now unusual in terms of completely lacking a critical setting, rather than having it set at a default value? |
16:40 |
jeff |
i'm trying to remember if that's been a problem before. possibly back in jspac. |
16:40 |
|
mmorgan joined #evergreen |
16:41 |
gsams_ |
I believe I changed the information for all of them to nothing in quotes, so that it would be editable once more. I can double check to see if they've been filled in appropriately |
16:41 |
gsams_ |
I got 2 errors in the console when I attempted to place the hold |
16:41 |
jeff |
i'd start with the javascript conosle errors, if any. |
16:42 |
jeff |
be aware that those errors may contain private data or valid auth tokens. careful when pasting. :-) |
16:42 |
pastebot |
"gsams_" at 64.57.241.14 pasted "Javascript Console Errors" (7 lines) at http://paste.evergreen-ils.org/542 |
16:42 |
gsams_ |
I didn't see anything of the sort in them |
16:42 |
jeff |
nope. i didn't see anything private in the paste you just pasted. |
16:43 |
gsams_ |
I was trying to be more careful this time, I try. |
16:43 |
jeff |
now for the comparison: do you receive the same errors when working with a patron that is NOT having this issue? |
16:43 |
mmorgan |
gsams: Maybe the problem now is the usr settings with the empty quotes? |
16:44 |
mmorgan |
If a user hasn't set a preference they won't have the user setting at all. |
16:44 |
jeff |
(I'm guessing the autosuggest one will trigger regardless, that's likely semi-expected noise) |
16:46 |
gsams_ |
well, on a hunch I edited the field in the patron editor, but deleted my edit and then saved and suddenly it worked. |
16:46 |
gsams_ |
still with the same 2 errors, so red herring there. |
16:46 |
gsams_ |
but the patrons info filled in. |
16:47 |
gsams_ |
mmorgan++ |
16:47 |
gsams_ |
jeff++ |
16:49 |
mmorgan |
yay for success! |
16:49 |
gsams_ |
indeed! |
16:51 |
jeff |
What were the values before, and what do they look line now? |
16:55 |
gsams |
jeff: DB side, the old values show up as '', while the fixed account shows up as "" |
16:55 |
gsams |
so I apparently borked the execution of the original fix idea, but not enough to break the editor |
16:58 |
gsams |
I didn't put double quotes inside my single quotes and it didn't like that. |
17:01 |
Dyrcona |
yeah, they're JSON values. |
17:02 |
Dyrcona |
I always have to remember that. |
