11:34 berick jeff: i got a declarativeContent / RequestContentScript example working.  in its current form, user has to click an icon along the top-right of the browser.  (the page action).  they are presented w/ a permission dialog.  once approved, the permission persisted across tabs and chrome restarts.  looks promising.

12:03 jeff berick: happy to hear that's how the implementation goes.
12:04 jeff "for now"

12:07 jeff berick: to clarify, once the initial page action gesture + permission grant takes place, the page can initiate message passing to the extension without further need for gesture/interaction with the page action icon?
12:08 jeff (that's what i was hoping, but just realized that you may not have meant that)

12:10 berick jeff: i can freely pass messages between the page and the content script after allowing the permission.  i'm now in the process of setting up communication between the content script and the extention to see if 2-way communication works the same there
12:10 berick that would give us the full stack
12:11 berick that should be the easy part.  i'll know soon

12:22 berick jeff: confirmed, I can freely pass messages from page => content => extension => content => page.

12:24 jeff now for some webusb and/or chrome.serial magic, and we're free of one vendor and wed to another! ;-)

12:26 jeff I haven't yet determined if this announcement means that it will become more difficult / impossible to run a web page in an "app" window in Chrome via command line arguments: https://blog.chromium.org/2016/08/from-chrome-apps-to-web.html

16:18 * Dyrcona studies up on PostgreSQL tuning, again. :)
16:18 Dyrcona Looks like they took my pgtune away.
16:20 Dyrcona I inherited a server with RAID already configured to use as a test/development db server.
16:20 Dyrcona "RAID 5 is not a very good option for databases unless you have more than 6 disks in your volume."
16:21 Dyrcona Fortunately, for me, the RAID 5 has 8 disks. :P
16:22 Dyrcona I'm not expecting it to be blazing fast, anyway, but we'll need to replace the production database server sooner or later.
16:22 Dyrcona Bmagic: You are going to do a presentation at the conference about using Google Cloud, yeah?
16:23 * Dyrcona imagines no one is really paying attention. Tomorrow being a holiday in the US and all.
16:24 Bmagic Dyrcona: yeah, that was a good idea
16:24 Dyrcona I should figure out what I want to present, if anything.
16:24 Dyrcona I mentioned it to tspindler and he seems interested.
16:25 Dyrcona Maybe after we go through our next generation of servers.
16:25 Bmagic I think remingtron was asking me to join him on a presentation as well
16:25 Bmagic you mentioned what to tspindler ?
16:26 Dyrcona About you using Google Cloud.
16:27 Bmagic oh sure, I think it's a great idea, I will compse a presentation on it for sure
16:27 Dyrcona Bmagic++

16:29 Dyrcona Related to disk configuration and Pg performance, I don't think I've put pg_xlog on a different RAID from the main pg files.
16:30 Dyrcona Hmm... Messing with the RAID would practically require a reinstall of the O/S.... I'll keep this in mind for next time.
16:31 Dyrcona Well, I'm going to head home.
16:31 Dyrcona For everyone in the US, have a happy Thanksgiving!
16:31 Dyrcona And for everyone else, have a good day!
16:45 berick jeff: FYI @ https://bugs.launchpad.net/evergreen/+bug/1640255/comments/5 -- hatch code working w/ declarativeContent

16:50 jeff berick++ thanks!
16:51 berick jeff++ right batch atcha.  I think this is a much nicer approach.  plus, we get to put a little Hatch icon in the browser -- makes it look official ;)
16:52 berick now we just need some icon art
