So, I am considering creating a bug for this. Stop me if there already is something. We need a way for libraries to report bibs that had a copy attached but no longer does. AKA "cancels". I have spent some hours playing with views and clever queries. |
11:33 |
Bmagic |
It seems like I need to create a triggered materialized table for this. Otherwise the queries that I have come up with are just too slow |
11:35 |
tsbere |
Bmagic: Is this regarding the OCLC stuff? |
11:35 |
Bmagic |
right |
11:36 |
tsbere |
Bmagic: I would recommend a nightly stored proc to update a table, personally. Too many things to look for with a trigger. |
11:36 |
Bmagic |
I see your script created some postgres structure |
11:37 |
tsbere |
Yea, though not library specific it could easily be adapted to include library IDs, at a specific depth or otherwise |
11:37 |
Bmagic |
for sure |
11:38 |
Bmagic |
I was just wondering if this deserves a bug/tracking |
11:43 |
JBoyer |
I imagine it's something that other consortia with OCLC members might like to see, putting it in LP doesn't mean you can't use a local version/alternative until it hits core (or doesn't). |
11:44 |
mmorgan |
Bmagic: Is there a reason you don't delete records when the last copy is removed? You could then get the oclc numbers from deleted bibs by date. |
11:45 |
Bmagic |
This isn't specific to OCLC. It's just getting the ability to get a list of bib records where you "used" to have copies and now you dont |
11:45 |
Bmagic |
mmorgan: other branches/systems might still have their copies attached |
11:46 |
Bmagic |
for a specified list of branches, we want a list of bibs where that group of branches HAD a copy and now have 0 copies between them |
11:47 |
tsbere |
Bmagic: That is very hard to do in all cases |
11:47 |
Bmagic |
it shouldnt be hard |
11:48 |
tsbere |
Bmagic: Transfer the entire call number to another bib and you don't have a deleted call number or copies to look at, for example. |
11:49 |
tsbere |
I suppose just changing the call number owning lib would be enough to trigger that kind of situation as well |
11:49 |
Bmagic |
sure, we merge bibs all the time. The deleted bibs do not matter, just the final bib where the copies were moved, then deleted. |
11:49 |
tsbere |
Do all copy statuses count or just ones that made it to active? |
11:50 |
tsbere |
And I wasn't talking about deleting/merging a bib. I was talking "we moved these from non-deleted bib A to non-deleted bib B, and bib A still has stuff from other libraries" |
11:51 |
tsbere |
The OCLC stuff I came up with was also, in part, intended for dealing with "the same OCLC number is on multiple bibs, and while *one* was deleted there are still non-deleted ones there" which is why it is based on the OCLC number and not bib IDs. |
11:51 |
Bmagic |
tsbere: moving the volume doesn't matter. It's purely hinged ac.deleted |
11:52 |
tsbere |
Bmagic: To clarify: My point is that "flagged as deleted" is not the only way a library stops having copies on a bib. |
11:53 |
tsbere |
Bmagic: Also, just as a basic question: Do you need to worry about located URIs coming/going? |

tsbere: We are not worried about located URI's. We are assuming that the library deletes the copy. The status isn't in the equation. But that is just us. The subject gets more complex as you try to catch all scenarios. Therefore, it might not be something adopted by the community? |
12:51 |
tsbere |
Bmagic: The number of scenarios is one of the reasons what I wrote for MVLC works the way it does. I don't have a generic "you had copies but now you don't" for a number of reasons, mainly because "*why* do you want that information?" becomes very important very quickly in my experience. |
12:51 |
Bmagic |
I am starting to agree |
12:51 |
tsbere |
Luckily the why usually eliminates a large number of things to keep track of |
12:52 |
Bmagic |
If I come up with a view, I might throw it up on LP and see what happens |

i have template overrides set up according to the documentation but it seems the system sometimes doesn't honor the overrides. |
14:10 |
krvmga |
i have two sets of overrides: one for general opac template overrides and one for a specific institution's overrides |
14:11 |
krvmga |
it seems sometimes the specific institution's overrides are being ignored |
14:11 |
krvmga |
not sure what's happening :( |
14:14 |
krvmga |
has anyone run into issues with multiple levels of template overrides? |
14:31 |
tsbere |
krvmga: We don't use overrides for our customizations. I know how to, we just don't. But you could have things defined out of order, your paths could be wrong, or you may not have the institution's overrides defined in the right places. |
14:31 |
tsbere |
krvmga: Or, if you have multiple bricks, you may have out of sync configs |

Well, with English muffins, the butter gets in all those nooks and crannies. Same thing, right? |
15:47 |
tsbere |
There are differences, though I have only had crumpets once or twice. |
15:47 |
jlitrell |
No, because when you toast it the stupid peaks get all sharp and hurt your mouth. |
15:47 |
jlitrell |
English muffins are good as hamburger buns, and that's it. |
15:48 |
kmlussier |
jlitrell: I can honestly say I have never hurt my mouth eating an English muffin. But I will withhold my judgment on a crumpet until I've actually tried one. |
15:48 |
tsbere |
jlitrell: I could argue that you are over-toasting your english muffins if they are able to hurt your mouth. |
