09:58 lualaba Hello could anyone have suggestion on evergreen 2.8 why web client not working (sign in button not workik also workstation field is empty) desctop staff client working without any problem
09:58 lualaba hostname/eg/staff/login?route_to=%2Feg%2Fstaff%2Fhome  same is for eg/staff/home
10:03 kmlussier lualaba: I can't help you with the login problems, but I just wanted to let you now that the empty workstation is expected if you haven't previously logged into the web client.
10:04 kmlussier You need to log into the web client first before you can register the workstation, so the first login usually shows an empty workstation.
10:05 lualaba but i can't login also i not able find log files with error (may be there is specific location)?
10:05 berick lualaba: check your browser's javascript console.
10:06 lualaba already checked enabled
10:06 berick what does it say when you try to log in?
10:07 lualaba nothing sign in button not working, also not try to do anything
10:08 berick does it say anything after reloading the page?
10:08 berick there should at least be some logs or an error
10:11 lualaba this is way i am wondering no errors no logs
10:11 berick what browser?
10:11 lualaba chrome
10:11 * bshum has a gut feeling that it's probably websockets issue. (like not installed / started, or firewall blocked)
10:12 csharp or ssl cert setup
10:12 berick bshum: likely, but that would show as an error in the JS console
10:12 berick there's always *something* in the js console
10:12 bshum Well there should always be an error for no hatch.
10:12 bshum So that seems suspicious, yeah.
10:13 lualaba same in explorer no errors
10:13 berick IE won't work
10:13 berick has to be chrome or FF
10:13 lualaba http://92.241.95.30/eg/staff/login?route_to=%2Feg%2Fstaff%2Fhome
10:13 lualaba you can check
10:13 berick lualaba: https
10:13 lualaba https same think
10:14 kmlussier I get errors in the javascript console
10:14 berick lualaba: I'm getting JS console errors
10:14 bshum csharp: I consider SSL setup issues to be part of websockets installation/startup problems :) but it does tend to be the common problem.
10:14 berick lualaba: the port is not open
10:14 berick lualaba: i can't connect to 92.241.95.30 on port 7682
10:14 berick which is required for websockets
10:14 lualaba which port? 443 is opened
10:15 lualaba 7682 ok i will try open it thank you. and what java error? and why i dont see
10:15 berick lualaba: javascript
10:15 berick in chrome, control-shift-j to open the JS console
10:16 bshum berick++
10:16 lualaba a ok thank you i will try
10:17 * berick wonders if any progress was made on the nginx proxy
10:18 gmcharlt berick: some; expect some patch droppage in the next couple weeks
10:19 berick gmcharlt++ # seeing the bat signal
10:21 Dyrcona Best decision we've made at MVLC: Completely separate staff and patron bricks.
10:21 * bshum really wants to do that. Someday.
10:22 gmcharlt berick: also, yesterday miker and I did some blue-sky spitballing, along the lines of moving most of the mod_perl handlers for TPAC and kin to new open-ils.opac and open-ils.template services, and replacing them with a small shim written in C that knows how to grab parameters and pass off requests
10:22 csharp Dyrcona: huh - that's a thought - I may follow up with you on that
10:23 gmcharlt do that, and do somthing similar for supercat... and we might make the Apache backends slim enough that folding the websockets config back into it might make since
10:23 Dyrcona We had a problem on the public side yesterday that would have taken everything down had they been connected.
10:23 gmcharlt like I said... just spitballnin' at the moment
10:23 Dyrcona gmcharlt: That sounds cool.
10:25 kmlussier dbs: Is the RFC at http://wiki.evergreen-ils.org/doku.php?id=feature:academic_reserves what eventually became Syrup?
10:29 lualaba i will return with answer tomorrow helped or not opening of ports (Thank you again)
10:32 berick gmcharlt: interesing, so apache receives the tpac request, passes it off (via C apache handler) to open-ils.template/opac which ultimatel returns the HTML?
10:32 berick *ultimately
10:33 gmcharlt berick: yes

14:56 rjackson_isl seeing an issue within staff client (2.7.2) where search performed by keword (title) and limitied to a specific branch - the bib has no holdings and source is set to one that is transcendant of false
14:56 rjackson_isl any clue as to what causes this?
14:56 vlewis_ joined #evergreen
14:56 jeff rjackson_isl: if a bib has zero holdings it will show in staff searches regardless of location.
14:57 jeff in jspac, these used to be "grey" records.
14:57 rjackson_isl jeff: OK - local cataloger indicated if selecting a branch/system they don't show - but I thought what you said!
14:58 tsbere rjackson_isl: I think, to clarify, that should be "zero holdings and no located URIs", or probably from a DB POV more accurately as "no non-deleted call numbers".
14:58 rjackson_isl there are no call number deleted or otherwise4
14:58 jeff i think the intent was so that staff could more easily find new bibs to attach physical holdings, but i'm uncertain.
14:58 rjackson_isl yeah - that was my vague recollection as well
14:59 jeff i'd support the idea of changing the behavior so that they only appear for top-of-tree or with another modifier used by staff cataloging/processing items. :-)
14:59 rjackson_isl jeff++ tsbere++
14:59 tsbere jeff: Perhaps add a #empty to go along with the existing #staff?
15:00 jeff right. along those lines. maybe even give users a pref to toggle that would make all of their searches #empty by default.
15:01 tsbere Question is, should #empty require that #staff be set as well, or should they be split entirely?
15:02 jeff #empty should be restricted to staff. #empty might imply #staff.
15:03 jeff #deleted might be closely related.
15:04 Stompro joined #evergreen
15:04 tsbere Technically #deleted doesn't require #staff....in fact, I don't think #staff has any effect on #deleted, #deleted kindof overrides some of that.
15:05 jeff Yeah, I think I was thinking (incorrectly?) that #staff was also permission locked somewhere.
15:05 tsbere nah
15:06 tsbere Drop #staff into a public search and you get the base results. Not all the staff details if not in the staff client, but the results will be there.
15:06 tsbere Staff client searches just add it by default ;)
15:06 * jeff nods
15:07 * tsbere has at times wanted a #public modifier that overrode #staff so that staff could see bibs by the "would show up for the public" limitation in the staff client
15:07 gmcharlt hmm - since, ostensibly, the dev meeting should have started a few minutes ago, but nobody's yet volunteered to run it, and since there's no agenda... shall we skip it until January?
15:07 gmcharlt to be clear, if there are things folks want discuss, I'm game
15:08 tsbere I'm game either way, but the only topic I have in my head right now to discuss is this search modifier thing, which isn't really fleshed out enough for a full on meeting topic.
15:08 berick hm, yeah, +1 to skipping / informal meeting
15:11 RoganH I'm always game to skip a meeting even if I'm unlikely to chime in... on principal.
15:12 gmcharlt sounds good
15:13 gmcharlt tsbere: at first blush, a #public modifier makes since; at the very least, I agree on the usefulness of adding support for that use case
15:13 tsbere gmcharlt: I could also see just adding a way to *not* add the automatic #staff. Say, making it *not* automatic but add a checkbox for it that only shows up for staff?
15:14 * tsbere could also see a dropdown containing "Public" (add nothing), "Staff" (add #staff), and "Deleted" (add #deleted) entries
15:15 eby joined #evergreen

15:18 kmlussier Belatedly, I'm okay with skipping the meeting, especially if we have nothing to discuss.
