10:11 bshum Monday--

10:15 csharp miker: (just gonna ask this for when you're around) did you ever consider allowing uploading a file as input to the reports interface "In list"?  I've run across a few instances lately where I would want that, but I'm wondering if there are reasons why we wouldn't want it...
10:16 jeff large WHERE foo IN ([long list]) can get inefficient.
10:16 jeff though not as bad as NOT IN, i guess.
10:21 jeff and of course that might actually use ANY now that i think about it
10:22 * tsbere wonders what csharp is looking to upload
10:22 maryj joined #evergreen
10:23 csharp tsbere: in this particular case, a list of TCNs we'd want to report on
10:25 tsbere hmmm...
10:26 tsbere csharp: As a workaround, perhaps load a record bucket, then make the report pull off of a bucket ID instead?
10:26 csharp tsbere: that would work!  I'd not thought of that
10:27 csharp if we get user buckets working, that would be the solution all around, I think
10:27 mrpeters joined #evergreen
10:28 bshum buckets/containers/lists, oh my.
10:31 jboyer-isl I’m also really into the bucket idea. Doing anything that results in the contents of an uploaded file ending up in an SQL statement makes me nervous. (Also, seems like a great use for buckets!)
10:38 tsbere The last time I had a request like this they were going to dump a list of copies from a bucket and have me run a report on the dumped list of barcodes. I asked for the bucket ID instead.
10:44 csharp okay - GPLS IT admins need to make a change on the git server that requires it be offline - we'd like to schedule it ASAP.  Is 11:00 a.m. EDT too soon? or would 11:30 be better?
10:46 * csharp will interpret no response as "that's totally fine with me"
10:46 collum joined #evergreen
10:51 tsbere csharp: Everything I need is mirrored at MVLC anyway. ;)
10:51 csharp tsbere: cool
10:51 * tsbere even rigged mirroring for the working repos MVLC uses
10:55 jeff_ joined #evergreen
10:56 csharp hmm - so there will need to be some fieldmapper linkage between bibs/copies and their respective buckets, but that shouldn't be too hard
10:58 csharp *****git.evergreen-ils.org going down in 2 minutes*****
10:59 bshum Hehe
11:00 csharp *****git.evergreen-ils.org going down NOW!!!*****
11:03 tsbere csharp: It goes the other way just fine (start with the bucket, move to bibs/copies)

11:25 phasefx pinesol_green no longer sharing RSS feeds?
11:25 pinesol_green phasefx: I see nothing, I know nothing!

11:27 bshum phasefx: Hmm?
11:28 bshum Maybe something changed with the upgrade over the weekend
11:28 bshum @blame wheezy
11:28 pinesol_green bshum: wheezy is really just another name for autogen
11:28 phasefx bshum: don't see an RSS plugin, but maybe it got subsumed by something else
11:29 bshum Error.
11:29 bshum When trying to load it.
11:30 bshum The RSS plugin must be broken with the new Python, maybe.
11:30 bshum UnboundLocalError: local variable 'results' referenced before assignment
11:31 phasefx fun
11:31 phasefx for reference, this is the feed the for the live tester: http://testing.evergreen-ils.org/~live/test_rss.xml
11:34 bshum I'm going to see if I can find an updated RSS plugin file.
11:34 bshum That seems to be what some people are saying.

11:41 bshum Well nope, it seems our version of supybot is as new as it gets
11:41 Bmagic does this path still exist? /apps/open-ils.auth/app_settings/default_timeout/opac  I can't seem to find it
11:42 tsbere Bmagic: That looks like xpath
11:43 tsbere Bmagic: And yes, it should still exist
11:43 jeff_ that's xpath referring to a stanza within the opensrf.xml config file.
11:43 Bmagic ah!
11:44 phasefx Bmagic: for fun, install xml2 and do  cat opensrf.xml | xml2
11:45 Bmagic alright, that sounds fun
11:45 csharp bshum: I learned that the git server's still on squeeze (did an APT upgrade anyway)
11:49 bshum The Twitter plugin is borked too, unloading that.

12:06 jeff_ yes.
12:07 Bmagic cool, thanks, just making sure
12:12 bshum Sigh
12:12 dbs le sigh?
12:12 bshum So, supybot is mostly dead.
12:13 bshum Or at least the RSS plugin definitely hates me
12:13 bshum There's some websites where it looks like people are starting to make their own forks of supybot
12:14 bshum Like http://supybot.aperio.fr/ -- Limnoria
12:14 bshum supybot itself hasn't changed for any of the packaged versions in... awhile

12:14 bshum My guess is that something's changed with Wheezy upgrade for Lupin and the python sucks

12:59 jboyer-isl bshum: you might check Python2 vs Python3. If 3 is the default you probably have to also put 2 on there. If it’s running 2 and everything is b0rked, we may require a more recent vintage of bot.
12:59 bshum jboyer-isl: It looks like it's just Python2.6 vs. Python2.7
13:00 bshum So it's not a completely dead end.
13:00 bshum So far.
13:00 bshum Though I don't know what Jessie has in store for us during the next great expansion
13:00 jboyer-isl Dang,
13:00 bshum I was going to try putting together a new vintage bot anyways, since they exist out there.
13:00 bshum But probably won't get to it... well, today.
13:01 bshum Or possibly tomorrow either.
13:01 jboyer-isl I’m sure we can mange without our coffee and tea. ;)
13:01 bshum For the time being that just means the RSS feed won't get piped automatically to IRC.
13:01 jboyer-isl For a little while.
13:01 bshum @tea [someone]
13:01 * pinesol_green brews and pours a pot of None, and sends it sliding down the bar to phasefx_ (http://ratetea.com/tea/rishi/bao-zhong-oolong/768/)
13:01 bshum jboyer-isl: No those things still mostly work
13:01 bshum It's just RSS plugin that's mostly dead
13:01 bshum And Twitter, but we barely used that.
13:02 jboyer-isl Of course they do. Priorities, I suppose.
13:02 bshum The lack of RSS just means we'll have to check the livetest runs more manually :)
13:03 bshum And I suppose other stuff in the openils-evergreen legacy channel, where we were piping the LP bug tracking RSS feeds there.
13:03 bshum But that's less notable.
13:05 bshum fwiw though, that Limnoria supybot variant supposedly handles Python 3 support.
13:05 bshum So maybe that's the future :)
13:06 Dyrcona I can't think of much that should break going from 2.6 to 2.7, but since it is RSS, then its probably something to do with urllib/urllib2 changes.
13:08 bshum Probably.

14:12 csharp (vs. git rebase -i)
14:14 jeff_ i use both for different things.
14:15 csharp this is for re-evaluating our customizations on 2.7.2 to see if their still necessary

15:09 mmorgan If a permission exists only in seed data and upgrade scripts, but not anywhere in the code, it seems pretty safe to say that the permission isn't used, yes?
15:10 mmorgan Specifically, I'm looking at SET_CIRC_MISSING
15:12 pinesol_green [evergreen|Josh Stompro] LP#1497318 - Acknowledgments update Adding Northwest Regional Library System to 2.8 and 2.9 - <http://git.evergreen-ils.org/?p=Evergreen.git;a=commit;h=2d72a79>
15:14 Dyrcona mmorgan: Looks like it might have been used back in 2.0/2.1 days.
15:14 Dyrcona Based on the upgrade scripts that it appears in.
15:17 mmorgan So if it's no longer used, is an lp bug to remove it in order?
15:18 csharp wow - the Death Cab for Cutie Pandora station is just right for me today :-)
15:19 csharp @eightball can good music make a Monday better?
15:19 pinesol_green csharp: Of course.
15:20 Dyrcona mmorgan: If you think it should be removed, then yes.
15:21 Dyrcona I wonder if it was ever actually used.
15:21 * mmorgan wonders the same thing.
15:22 Dyrcona Closest thing is mark circ item missing pieces that require MARK_ITEM_MISSING_PIECES permission.
15:23 Dyrcona Missing isn't anything to do with circs, but with copies.
15:23 * berick also notes MARK_ITEM_MISSING
15:23 mmorgan berick: Yes, It looks like that's the one that's actually used.
15:25 Dyrcona Yeah, but as I said above missing has nothing to do with circs, just copies.
15:25 * mmorgan will open an lp bug.
15:25 jeff_ my money's on never used. it was originally added as a permission in commit 746ea9a
15:25 pinesol_green [evergreen|miker] tweaking permissions - <http://git.evergreen-ils.org/?p=Evergreen.git;a=commit;h=746ea9a>
15:26 Dyrcona I don't see any code in the mark item logic that touches circulations. Marking an item damaged may affect holds.
15:27 mmorgan Dyrcona: The mark item as missing pieces function re-checks out the item to the previous patron.
15:27 jeff_ (in an annoyingly unpredictable fashion)
15:28 mmorgan Very true, that :)
15:28 Dyrcona jeff_: That's a different backend call from the one that I'm talking about.
15:29 jeff_ Dyrcona: i was responding only to mmorgan :-)
15:29 Dyrcona Sorry jeff_, should have been aimed at mmorgan. I got my lines crossed. :)
15:30 Dyrcona But yeah, missing pieces does, but just mark item missing doesn't.
15:30 rlefaive joined #evergreen
15:31 jeff_ For a period of time, the register_method call for open-ils.circ.circulation.set_claims_returned claimed in its NOTES that it requires SET_CIRC_MISSING perms, but it does not appear to have actually ever had that requirement. I suspect the perm was renamed in between commits and the old one never went away.

15:50 Dyrcona Gotta love it.... Header says UTF-8, file is actually MARC-8.
15:51 Dyrcona s/Header/Leader/
15:54 Dyrcona Oh, good. Even better.
15:54 Dyrcona Second set of records from the same vendor appear to be actually UTF-8. Maybe it varies by record.
15:56 jeff i still enjoy file.xls that is actually an xml document (Workbook xmlns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:spreadsheet") claiming encoding="UTF-8" but it's actually Windows-1252.
15:56 jeff but at least that was internally consistent.
15:57 jboyer-isl Dyrcona: More likely: they don’t go to any particular effort at all re: encoding. Just like setting the html meta tag to always say UTF-8, no matter what.
15:57 Dyrcona jboyer-isl: Most likely.
15:57 Dyrcona GIGO!
15:58 gmcharlt Dyrcona: so far you're still ahead --- I've seen records where the encoding varied by subfield
15:58 Dyrcona gmcharlt: Something about too many chefs..... ;)
15:58 jeff in this case, "GÎøÖ" might be more appropriate
15:59 Dyrcona jeff++
15:59 jboyer-isl jeff: my personal favorite is a site I download reports from on occasion. They offer “Excel” files which are html pages with only a table and a filename ending in .xls. Excel will allow you to open it anyway, which is what caused the developer to shrug their shoulders and check a list on the feature sheet.
16:00 jeff jboyer-isl: yup.
16:00 jeff i've seen at least one of those also.
16:01 jeff i don't remember who, though.
16:05 gmcharlt Excel: for when you absolutely must express barcode numbers in scientific notation...
16:06 mmorgan :)
16:06 jboyer-isl “Leading zeros? What leading zeros?”
16:08 mmorgan Here, let me remove all those from your zip codes...
16:09 jeff "This 3.1235E+013 patron just shows up all over the place!"
16:09 jeff has ALL of our books checked out, huge outstanding balance...
16:11 Dyrcona gmcharlt: You can set the number format so that barcodes show up as they should, and it is easy to do Spreadsheet::WriteExcel and the it's XLSX replacement.
16:11 dbs jeff++
16:11 * Dyrcona can't type today.
