04:28 jeff @later tell alynn26 Regarding patron_password_required vs require_patron_password, I believe the setting circ.selfcheck.require_patron_password is completely unused and can be removed. I've created a working branch to that effect.
04:28 pinesol_green jeff: The operation succeeded.

08:32 remingtron Jones_: Do you have access to run the report manually from the staff client?
08:33 Jones_ Yea
08:33 Jones_ I have
08:33 remingtron Jones_: someone suggested earlier on IRC that your error might be caused by the report failing
08:34 remingtron so it might help if you try to run it manually and see if it completes or not
08:34 Jones_ Silva and I are workmate..
08:34 remingtron ah, that makes sense
08:35 Jones_ She's absent today because of flu.
08:35 Jones_ Run manually?
08:35 Jones_ you mean restarting the clark?

09:22 hopkinsju Good morning! The Gorge Room (and Starbucks) is already open.
09:24 buzzy they're already serving food in the gorge room?

09:51 hopkinsju buzzy: Sorry for the confusion - no food yet but the doors are open and the power outlets are juicy.

11:45 pgardella Who are the search indexing and keyword gurus for Evergreen? We're trying to figure out why things do what they do.
11:48 eeevil pgardella: "reasons" ;)
11:49 eeevil what's it doing that you're looking at?
11:51 pgardella A couple of things:  1) why stop words aren't being ignored (ala http://masslnc.cwmars.org/node/2638) 2) impact of authority records on search 3) where in the DB the keywords for search are stored (if they are) and 4) how to combine MARC subfields so they return a single subject/keyword in search rather than two
11:55 pgardella nice light simple questions, I know
11:56 eeevil pgardella: re stop words,  "it" by s. king, for instance
11:57 eeevil 2) none in search. see: browse
11:57 pgardella Yes.  What we're dealing with is that "The Book of Acts" returns no results, but "Book of Acts" does.
11:57 eeevil 3) in several tables. see the metabib schema
11:58 eeevil ah, that's something else. its not stop words, but nonfiling characters. and configurable
11:59 pgardella 3) I looked in keyword_field_entry but it doesn't split the keywords into individual terms
11:59 pgardella yes, I thought as much.  245 has the nonfiling characters set to 4, so it's removing the "The ".  Configured where?
11:59 pgardella Are you here at breakfast?
12:00 eeevil not sure what you mean. the index_vector col is what you want to look at for the actual guts of tsearch searching
12:00 eeevil I am :)
12:00 pgardella It might be easy to talk in person, but Buzzy picked the wrong time to start talking :)
12:09 jihpringle joined #evergreen
12:11 eeevil heh, indeed
12:16 pgardella got time now?
12:18 pgardella I think I figured out the index_vector part
12:21 dbs huh, non-filing characters result in the non-filing part not being indexed in search? That seems like a change in behaviour
12:23 pgardella dbs: no, I can see "the" in the keyword index. Search either doesn't discard the "the" or something.  I'm hoping I can find someone who knows this well at the Conference to work through this
12:23 eeevil pgardella: sure. I'm toward the front, in a pastel shirt
12:24 pgardella what color pastel :)
12:26 eeevil dbs: likely xpath using that excludes title/nonsort or similar
12:39 dbs eeevil: right, but I'm sure that didn't used to be the case; local customization perhaps? Hoping it's not a regression somehow related to browse sorting
12:39 dbs pgardella: we don't use stopwords; we don't want search to discard "the"
12:40 dbs e.g. searching for the band "The The"
12:40 * dbs is not at the conference though
12:46 kmlussier mmorgan: I'm taking notes on csharp's presentation until my battery runs out. Not sure how long that will be.

12:47 jeff kmlussier: there's a seat up here by an outlet, if you have a charger -- or if you can charge via usb, apple lightning cable, or apple 30-pin connector
12:47 mmorgan kmlusser: Thanks! You'll just need to record the rest in your head :)
12:47 collum joined #evergreen
12:48 kmlussier jeff: Thanks! I think I'll try to avoid the disruption of moving seats at this point.
12:48 jeff kmlussier: and if usb/lightning/30-pin, power can come to you
12:49 kmlussier jeff: You are very prepared!
12:49 jeff but if the battery is a convenient excuse to relax and not worry about typing notes, ignore everything i said. ;-)

12:59 kmlussier pgardella: That MassLNC page you linked to was an idea that was raised through our development ideas process. It's not something that was implemented nor is it something we want to implement.
13:00 kmlussier pgardella: I also recommend you go to my search presentation later in the day. It might answer some of your questions.
13:00 kmlussier pgardella: I'm not necessarily a guru, but we've done a lot of work on configuring search in our consortia.

13:32 kmlussier mmorgan: Made it through the whole session! :)
13:37 eeevil dbs: turns out it was about browse, and legit 245i2 trimming. there's a global flag to warn on articles
13:40 pgardella eeevil: figured out the problem with the article warning not dropping "The ".  The regex is not set for case-insensitive in the global setting.  I tried adding "i" flag to do so, but it doesn't like it.  What flavor of regexp is this using?
13:41 phasefx pgardella: maybe do [Tt]he for now?
13:42 eeevil phasefx++
13:42 pgardella That'll work for the moment.  I'd love to submit a more complete fix though :)
