09:50 kmlussier Happy Monday #evergreen!
09:52 csharp Happy George Vernon Hudson Day!
09:53 * kmlussier googles George Vernon Hudson and now knows who to blame for her excessive sleepiness this morning.
09:54 csharp all because he wanted more evening daylight hours to hunt bugs
09:54 kmlussier I think I hate that man.
09:54 csharp "I could either 1) get up an hour earlier and hunt bugs in the morning or 2) force the entire Western world to get up an hour earlier.  I choose 2!

10:45 * berick wonders if this Wed. is too early to cut RC1
10:46 bshum berick: fwiw, mceraso and I were planning on getting a full sized test system (with a snapshot of our production db) upgraded to latest master (aka 2.8) in the next couple days.
10:47 bshum So I'll let you know if anything blows up ;)
10:47 bshum Along the way, I decided to try out PG 9.4.
10:48 berick bshum: good to know
10:48 bshum I'm poking at that more this afternoon to see what blows up, if anything.
10:49 bshum Nobody uses the .0 version anyways. Smart ones wait for the .1
10:49 * bshum is only half kidding
10:49 Dyrcona I have master as of Friday running on my development vm.
10:54 csharp I did more experimentation with new ejabberd and Fedora - I discovered that Debian Jessie is running the same version, but Debian works while Fedora 21's ejabberd is utterly broken ;-/
10:55 csharp (version is 14.07)
10:57 Dyrcona Welcome to the wonderful world of erlang packages.....
10:57 csharp https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1163812 is the bug report - looks like someone has suggested a workaround to get users registered (comment 2)
10:58 csharp Dyrcona: yeah, it gets pretty deep pretty fast
10:58 * Dyrcona wonders if the ousted Debian maintainer ended up at Red Hat..... ;)

14:15 dbs bshum: Hmm. I wonder if Howard is getting hit by the "yaz package in distro repo doesn't work" problem
14:15 dbs but then i read it all over again and no, it sounds like yaz is working just fine
14:16 * dbs has no idea
14:16 bshum dbs: I'm not sure what you mean about the yaz package not working actually.
14:16 bshum As far as I knew, it was fine, but maybe I'm behind somewhere.
14:16 dbs it's fine for him. Doesn't work in wheezy IIR
14:16 dbs IIRC
14:16 bshum We're talking about Ubuntu's yaz
14:16 dbs yeah
14:17 dbs actually yes, Ubuntu's yaz is toast
14:17 * dbs is so confused and should not be on IRC
14:18 * jonadab tosses dbs a unicorn horn.
14:21 Dyrcona Ubuntu 12.04's yaz is toast. 14.04 is OK.
14:22 dbs Dyrcona++ # thank you
14:24 bshum Are you sure?  I thought 12.04 was fine and it was 10.04 that was broken back in the day.  (which is why I started just using the yaz that came direct off the repo and just using the "latest" version)
14:24 * bshum looks for what everyone's talking about yaz being broken
14:27 Dyrcona More correctly, simple2zoom blows up with the yaz that shipped with 12.04: lp 117332
14:27 pinesol_green Launchpad bug 124896 in spe (Ubuntu Hardy) "duplicate for #117332 spe 0.8.2a+repack-1 fails with python-wxgtk2.8" (affected: 0, heat: 204) [High,Fix released] https://launchpad.net/bugs/124896 - Assigned to Stani (stani)
14:27 Dyrcona oh....
14:27 Dyrcona wrong bug number
14:27 Dyrcona lp 1172332
14:27 pinesol_green Launchpad bug 1172332 in Evergreen "simple2zoom has segmentation faults" (affected: 1, heat: 8) [Undecided,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/1172332
14:27 Dyrcona Switching the indexdata package resolved it for me.
14:29 bshum That sounds more familiar to me.
14:29 dbs and that's what resolved it for us, too. but we got pushback on standardizing that
14:29 bshum I did find an older closed bug on yaz issues too https://bugs.launchpad.net/evergreen/+bug/802523, but that was long ago resolved, and we don't support 10.04 anymore anyways.
14:29 pinesol_green Launchpad bug 802523 in Evergreen master "Yaz & XML::RPC packages broken on Ubuntu Lucid" (affected: 2, heat: 10) [Medium,Fix released]
14:30 bshum That issue is for external access to Evergreen's z39.50 though right?  The simple2zoom issue/
14:30 bshum Meaning if someone tries to talk to our Evergreen server and we have a broken yaz, they can't get anything from us.
14:30 bshum vs. Howard's problem where he seemed not to find bibs on other z39.50 sources and pulling them in?
14:30 bshum (i.e. different problems?)
14:30 Dyrcona bshum: I think they get the first so many results, and it dies if they ask for more.
14:31 bshum Just trying not to conflate issues.
14:31 Dyrcona Howard's problem is a lack of knowledge.
14:33 bshum Fwiw, I also use Indexdata's repo, just cause I like being on the edge and making fun of other vendors who still use archaic older versions.
14:34 bshum But only for our z39.50 server.  The rest of our app servers use the regular packaged versions that come with their distros.
14:34 bshum So it's a specific problem area to me :\
14:47 Dyrcona Well, most people don't split hairs. If anything related to Evergreen fails, it's an Evergreen problem. :)
14:47 csharp @blame Evergreen
14:47 pinesol_green csharp: Evergreen wants the TRUTH?! Evergreen CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!!
15:00 Dyrcona @blame Ubuntu
15:00 pinesol_green Dyrcona: Ubuntu must eat cottage cheese!
15:00 dbs bshum: yes, sorry, my confused memory was around yaz w/ simple2zoom specific, as Dyrcona pointed out
15:01 dbs Dyrcona++ # again, thanks
15:01 Dyrcona Well, I still blame the yaz package on Ubuntu for the seg faults. You just don
15:01 Dyrcona don't notice it in the staff client.
15:03 Dyrcona Unrelated lp 1026869 is driving me nuts, and I may work on it in my own time.
15:03 pinesol_green Launchpad bug 1026869 in firefox (Ubuntu) "Firefox accepts dictionaries and spell check entries from every which spell check backend, leaving problems with defaults and the language selector enables this behavior" (affected: 2, heat: 10) [Undecided,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/1026869

15:26 * Dyrcona figures out how to debug the hold targeter.
15:31 jeffdavis after applying the security fix for bug 1424755, we are finding that some org settings related to patron registration are not working correctly - anyone else see this?
15:31 pinesol_green Launchpad bug 1424755 in Evergreen 2.7 "Org Unit Setting View Permissions Can Be Bypassed" (affected: 1, heat: 256) [Critical,Fix committed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/1424755
15:35 Dyrcona jeffdavis: You might have added permissions to them.
15:35 Dyrcona I don't think they come that way in stock.
15:36 Dyrcona I know we've added permissions to some org unit settings, but can't say which ones off the top of my head.
15:36 Dyrcona Also, they may have had permissions at one time, that were removed in the schema files, but no upgrade script was made.
15:36 Dyrcona I vaguely recall something like that happening once, but could be a faulty memory.
15:37 Dyrcona I do believe the only thing with permissions in stock these days are related to credit card processor settings.
15:37 Dyrcona View permission, anyway.
15:40 jeffdavis I'm quite sure we added perms to the affected settings. But the issue is that the behavior governed by the settings is not affected by the setting, not that you can't view/edit the settings in the settings editor interface.
15:41 jeffdavis Hmm.
16:15 Dyrcona jeffdavis: I do not think I follow what you last said.
16:16 jeff I think I have a lead, based on some further details.
16:16 Dyrcona OK.

16:50 bshum But I'll settle for some mllewellyn cupcakes :D
16:56 bshum berick: So far, I'm not seeing anything in the 2.8 upgrade script that'll require any reingests. Which sounds good to me. :)
16:56 dreuther_ joined #evergreen
16:56 bshum That will help speed along testing, for sure...
16:56 berick bshum: thanks for reviewing.  i didn't see anything, either.  what a relief.
16:56 pinesol_green Incoming from qatests: Test Success - http://testing.evergreen-ils.org/~live/test.html <http://testing.evergreen-ils.org/~live/test.html>
16:57 berick bshum: and beware the upgrade script is going to get shorter, once I "rebase" it to current 2.7
16:57 bshum berick: Right on.
16:58 bshum Speaking of which, I feel like we really need to talk about that during one of these next meetings, or maybe at the conference.
16:58 bshum How people who keep following a series past the point it diverges to the next major series, usually end up having to disentangle upgrade scripts conflicts.
16:59 bshum I know a long time ago, eeevil had some ideas that didn't quite make it to the lists, but I'd like to see what we can brainstorm up on that front sometime I guess.
16:59 jeff +1 to unraveling a better way to avoid disentangling
16:59 bshum Well, eeevil and others?  Or maybe not eeevil.... it was some really old agenda item that kept getting deferred away :)
17:00 bshum I only mention it recently cause of that email on the lists asking about jumping from 2.6.4 to 2.7.0 when the script goes from 2.6.3.
17:00 bshum Trying to explain in the email about diff'ing the version upgrade scripts and dealing with conflicts felt hard.
