09:19 Dyrcona email-- mailman--
09:22 jeff Dyrcona: masslnc.org SPF record causing issues when Kathy sends through Mailman on list.evergreen-ils.org?
09:22 jeff or are you decrementing for other reasons? :-)
09:23 Dyrcona Other reasons.
09:23 Dyrcona If you were in #mailman you'd know why. ;)
09:24 Dyrcona In short, a list configuration isn't working, and I don't see why, and Google is no help.
09:24 Dyrcona All I find is "set it up this way." I set it up that way. It's not working, for 1 user. Everyone else is fine.
09:25 Dyrcona Or, rather was fine.
09:25 Dyrcona I haven't sent to the list today.
09:25 mllewellyn joined #evergreen
09:25 * csharp bans the problem user and walks away whistling
09:26 Dyrcona Actually, csharp, that's the problem. He mails the list, it says he's not allowed. However, the list configuration plainly says he is allowed.
09:26 csharp huh
09:27 csharp argh
09:27 csharp looks like kmlussier's issue is the BOR DNS issue again :-(
09:28 csharp just checked the postfix queue and it's full of mail
09:28 Dyrcona What issue is kmlussier having? Reverse DNS on our mail server or something else?
09:28 csharp not receiving mail from list.evergreen-ils.org
09:29 jeff computers--
09:29 csharp @blame computers
09:29 pinesol_green csharp: computers musta been an Apple employee.
09:29 jeff opened firefox. new window. nothing. realized it was because the new window was on my external display (which I didn't power on this morning).
09:30 jeff realized this just as i was restarting firefox, powered on external display.
09:30 Dyrcona Well, we've had tons of fun with email. Are we rejecting the messages for some reason?
09:30 jeff this computer has... issues with regard to the external display being attached/detatched/powered while doing other things (sometimes while doing nothing else)
09:30 Dyrcona If we're rejecting kmlussier's, we're probably rejected the ones to me and others as well.
09:31 Dyrcona I can't type this morning.
09:31 jeff so, a nice kernel panic to ensure that i have a clean slate and none of that pesky "in the middle of something" terminals open now.
09:31 csharp Dyrcona: in this case, it looks like bad DNS on the list server - nothing on your end
09:31 Dyrcona Yeah, nothing like a kernel panic to get things going again.
09:31 csharp @band add Kernel Panic
09:31 pinesol_green csharp: http://www.firstpersontetris.com/
09:32 * csharp wants pinesol_green to be zoia.... sometimes
09:32 jeff csharp: i seem to have received the messages in question on a gmail account but not on a google apps account. odd.
09:33 yboston joined #evergreen
09:33 tspindler joined #evergreen
09:33 jeff csharp: nevermind, all three messages came through at 9:28 US/Eastern for me on both accounts.
09:33 jeff (i checked the google apps account first, then kernel panic, then checked the gmail account -- where they were present. re-checked the google apps account then re-verified timestamps on all three messages on both accounts)
09:34 csharp good
09:35 csharp bclibraries servers have greylisted the mail - prolly because list.evergreen-ils.org blasted a bunch of email at it at once
09:35 * jeff grabs an ipod cable so that he can check google-side mail logs
09:37 jeff yeah, delay was not on google's end after accepting (which doesn't mean that it didn't tempfail for hours for some reason first)
09:39 Dyrcona Stick a fork in it. Email is done.
09:40 jeff yeah, eg-community.georgialibraries.org. had it in queue for a while.

10:04 Dyrcona csharp: I would think if kmlussier is not getting some list mail from Eg lists, then I would also be missing the same messages, since we're using the same mail server.
10:04 Dyrcona So, if you want me to look for anything in particular in our logs, I can.
10:13 jeff csharp++
10:13 jeff (for secret reasons)
10:14 csharp we could tell all y'all, but we'd have to kill all y'all
10:14 jeff (hat tip to E. B. White)
10:15 csharp :-D
10:17 csharp Dyrcona: according to the mail log on this end, a message was accepted by mail.mvlc.org at 9:28 a.m.
10:17 csharp (to klussier)
10:17 jeff looks like the list server was having dns issues.
10:18 csharp yeah - I replaced the now-crappy BOR DNS with Google
10:18 jeff but that its /etc/resolv.conf was updated with working nameservers this morning at... 9:28 AM :-)
10:18 jeff so, mystery solved.
10:18 Dyrcona csharp: OK. She got it. We also don't just discard messages, except on on our mailings lists.
10:18 jeff without working dns, mail servers have a hard time sending mail.
10:19 jeff logs++
10:19 Dyrcona jeff: Well, they do these days.
10:19 Dyrcona It's not 1993 any more. ;)
10:19 csharp from what I understand, they replaced one clunky proprietary behemoth with another proprietary behemoth and broke a bunch of things in the process, but apparently the new software brings more per-site configurability
10:19 jeff Dyrcona: bang paths and uucp and "this week's host file" and BITNET and so much more! :-)
10:19 csharp (BOR IT, that is)
10:20 Dyrcona jeff++
10:20 Dyrcona csharp: They aren't using djbdns? :p
10:20 csharp well, until we're all using systemd, then we're stuck with binary logs
10:21 * csharp moved his work desktop back to Fedora so as to get some practice with systemd
10:21 Dyrcona Somebody just wrote a compatibility layer for systemd for OpenBSD. It pretends to be systemd, but isn't.
10:21 Dyrcona I think I'll port it to Slackware. :)
10:21 csharp heh
10:23 RoganH joined #evergreen
10:23 Dyrcona We recently had to update our reverse DNS for our mail servers to get off a particular black list. Is that what you had to do, csharp?
10:23 Dyrcona But, we've had lots of fun with compromised accounts, etc., lately.
10:23 jeff csharp: i can't think of anything cute to say about BOR IT's DNS change, so I'll just quote DEVOPS_BORAT: In devops is turtle all way down but at bottom is perl script. https://twitter.com/DEVOPS_BORAT/status/248770195580125185
10:24 jeff and every time i see BOR IT now I'm going to hear it in my head with a Borat accent (which, not having seen the movies is going to sound more like a Boris Badenov accent)
10:47 Dyrcona That devops borat almost makes me want to sign up for twitter.

10:52 Dyrcona And now, back to work.
11:03 jeff E. B. White is alleged to have written a letter including the following (or perhaps consisting entirely of the following:
11:03 jeff > "Thanks for your letter inviting me to join the committee of the Arts and Sciences for Eisenhower. I must decline, for secret reasons."
11:07 jeff okay. now, why is marc_stream_importer.pl claiming successful import of 4 (out of 10) bibs when all ten have an imported_as value?
11:07 jeff disclaimers: 2.5.x, had to bring vandelay db functions up to date first, backported 1match to marc_stream_importer.pl
11:07 * jeff pokes and prods
11:07 csharp jeff++
11:08 jeff having a match point on 856$u for these overdrive records has really helped.
11:08 * csharp follows @DEVOPS_BORAT
11:11 jeff we don't have a copy of "How They Said It", which is at least one book that makes the "for secret reasons" claim. Interestingly enough, the first result for my keyword search of how they said it ended up being about Eisenhower.
11:21 ericar joined #evergreen
11:21 jeff ah, because repeated calls to $req->recv are getting only some of the data points.
11:23 berick jeff: important change was added to bug #1279998
11:23 pinesol_green Launchpad bug 1279998 in Evergreen "Support vandelay import match strategies in marc_stream_importer" (affected: 1, heat: 10) [Wishlist,Fix committed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/1279998

11:24 jeff i already backported 1match

11:30 jeff so, when running this with a 1000 record spool file, i found that marc_stream_importer.pl exited (i think without success or failure) before things completed, but then in the background things continued to progress until all 1000 bibs were imported.
11:30 kmlussier csharp: Thanks for looking into the e-mail issue!
11:30 jeff is that worth filing a bug, or do you think it's been fixed already?
11:32 berick jeff: i haven't seen that -- never tried a file that size -- so it's probably worth a bug.
11:33 jeff thanks.
11:33 jeff berick++ some more
11:34 jeff this might also be something my sleepy eyes missed last night, but the spoolfile passed to marc_stream_importer in no-daemon mode gets deleted -- i don't see thing in marc_stream_importer.pl that would do the actual deletion (unless I'm missing something in how File::Temp->tempfile works. Is the vandelay backend consuming and deleting the file in question?
11:35 * jeff_ looks at this client to see if he truncated
11:35 jeff_ nope!
11:35 berick open-ils.vandelay deletes the file
11:36 jeff okay, good. wasn't sure if that was something else that my sleepy eyes missed last night.
11:39 csharp @quote add < jeff> i feel a great disturbance in the code... as if $NUMBER of Dumper() calls cried out, and were removed.
11:39 pinesol_green csharp: Error: You must be registered to use this command. If you are already registered, you must either identify (using the identify command) or add a hostmask matching your current hostmask (using the "hostmask add" command).

11:40 pinesol_green csharp: The operation succeeded.  Quote #95 added.
11:43 yboston FYI, though I may be very late to the party, but I saw some links this morning about the plans for Angular 2.0
11:43 yboston "A sneak peek at the radically new Angular 2.0" http://jaxenter.com/angular-2-0-112094.html
11:43 dbs Yeah, can't worry too much about Angular 2.0 at this point.
11:44 dbs We can stick with Angular 1.3, running Dojo 1.3 :)
11:44 yboston dbs: :)

11:55 dbwells We could always go back to Evergreen 1.3 while we are at it ;)
11:55 kmlussier "It’s also been confirmed that there will be no migration path from Angular 1.X to 2.0."
11:55 kmlussier Is that something we should be worried about?
11:58 jeff i would say "aware of" is more important than "worried about"
12:00 RoganH joined #evergreen
12:01 RoganH yboston: reading on Angular 2.0.  ug.
12:03 yboston kmlussier: it seems they will not release Angular 2.0 until late 2015 or early 2016. At the that release time they will give 18 months to 2 years support for Angular 1.3
12:03 jeff Angular 1.3 just shipped. 2.0 is under construction and is considered experimental. We should not rest on our laurels, but the sky is not yet falling with regard to "oh no we're not using Angular 2 yet!" :-)
12:03 yboston kmlussier: so that should translate into a couple of more years of support at the very least
12:04 jeff yboston: i had been looking for any official claims of support timeline for 1.2/1.3 -- do you have a link to what you just summarized there?
12:04 yboston I did not mean to share the link to scare anyone, just meant it as a general heads up
12:04 yboston let me look for it
12:04 jeff kmlussier: the claim "there will be no migration path from Angular 1.x to 2.0" seems to contradict what I've seen, or be lacking some context.
12:05 jeff kmlussier: the "What about Migrating from 1.3 to 2.0?" section of this blog post should help there: http://angularjs.blogspot.com/2014/10/ng-europe-angular-13-and-beyond.html
12:06 kmlussier Oh, I'm not scared. I just know that we previously had trouble keeping up with other things (Dojo, XUL, MODS), and the statement about no migration path just seemed a little concerning.
12:06 yboston jeff: I got it from a comment at the end of the link I posted, right before the embedded video
12:06 kmlussier But I'm glad to see that this statement isn't supported elsewhere.
12:06 yboston jeff: "According to Brad Green of Angular, Angular 1.3 will continue to receive bugfix and security patch support for 18-24 months after the release of version 2.0." http://jaxenter.com/angular-2-0-112094.html
12:07 jeff kmlussier: in ways similar to Dojo, it probably won't just be a matter of "include the new AngularJS 2.0 and done!", so there will be work required to maintain it and migrate from 1.x to 2.0. It is good to have these conversations early. :-)
12:07 jeff yboston: thanks!
12:07 kmlussier Also, the idea of working with a toolkit that does an upgrade without a clear migration path was just a little concerning. :)
12:09 RoganH jeff: thanks for the link, the "we'll work on an upgrade path after 2 is out" is very different from "there won't be an upgrade path"

12:20 Dyrcona Ah, the beauty of JS frameworks.....
12:52 jeff vandelay overlay (at least with this merge profile and with marc_stream_importer.pl and my environment) does not update an existing record with a new source, and does not update the edit date of the bre. are any of those behaviors unexpected/undesired?
12:52 jeff i can see at least in my use case a desire for at least option of updating both.
