10:30 Bmagic Top of the morning to everyone!
10:30 Bmagic I need this query to return true: select permission.usr_has_perm(201704,'CREATE_VOLUME',127)
10:30 montgoc1 Morning.
10:31 csharp Bmagic: good morning to you
10:31 Bmagic csharp: !!
10:34 Bmagic I think I answered my own question! Just opening it up to the channel brings more ideas to my head! Does that ever happen to you?
10:34 csharp yes ;-)

10:46 Dyrcona Do any consortia take credit card payments via the OPAC? If so, how do you handle fiscal authority and/or distributing funds to the library to which it was owed?
10:46 csharp Dyrcona: we don't, but I've been asked to see if others do
10:47 dbs Dyrcona: you mean after you've funnelled all of the ill-gotten gains to the Caymans?
10:47 csharp and that issue has pretty much been the conversation stopper on this end ;-)
10:47 csharp (fund distribution)
10:49 jeff Dyrcona: we give patrons a link to click which takes them to a cgi that handles payment. Funds are deposited in one account, mmpbbt is used to determine if there were payments made for items owned by a fiscal entity other than that that owns the bank account in question, checks are cut to settle.
10:49 jeff (let me know if that truncated before "settle")
10:49 jeff (and some of this is "last time i checked")
10:50 Dyrcona jeff: I got the whole message.
10:50 jboyer-isl We take payments in here and I've got a half-dozen scripts that determine who owes who what and we settle up quarterly. (We also allow patrons to pay any bill at any location, so not everything run this way is OPAC related)
10:50 Dyrcona csharp: That's where we're at, too.
10:51 jboyer-isl That's why I was whining about how many joins you need to get actual information from the data in money.* a few months ago.
10:51 Dyrcona jboyer-isl: I didn't think you did that in Indiana, but good to know.
10:51 csharp jboyer-isl: ewww - yeah, that sounds like a nightmare
10:51 jboyer-isl The CC payments are a recent change.
10:52 csharp fortunately the PINES libs agreed at the beginning (1999) to not worry about redistributing fines - they cut checks to each other for lost items paid at other locations
10:52 jeff jboyer-isl: are your "half-dozen scripts" anywhere i can see them? I'm interested in making this easier for everyone, but probably won't know how well that will work until I see what things you have to worry about that I didn't have to worry about. :-)
10:53 jeff csharp: good point. we did that also -- fines stay where they're paid.
10:53 jeff csharp: it's just the lost item / damaged item type stuff that goes elsewhere.
10:53 csharp yeah - same here
10:54 pastebot "jboyer-isl" at 64.57.241.14 pasted "This is one of 3 separate queries (we differentiate between lost and overdues, then grocery)" (49 lines) at http://paste.evergreen-ils.org/25
10:54 csharp though the addition of collection agencies complicated that some - the library that pays for collection of their billings wants them paid there (understandably)
10:54 jboyer-isl jeff: Not yet, though I can make it so.
10:55 jeff csharp: are you doing anything to deal with that currently? refusing to take payment when patron is "in collections" with a grocery collection agency fee other than the library they're attempting payment at or something?
10:55 Dyrcona ooh...collections.... Didn't think of that.
10:57 csharp jeff: the libraries with collection agencies use the "BAR_PATRON" feature since only the library that bars a patron can remove the bar (per policy for other things)
10:57 jeff csharp: interesting.
10:57 csharp it's actually an abuse of that policy (which was meant to bar people for serious things), but no one complains
10:57 jeff csharp: do you have BAR_PATRON worked into your collections automation? Does your collections vendor set it, or do you have systems on your end that set it based on the collections standing pentlay?
10:57 jeff penalty
10:58 csharp no - the libraries set it manually
10:58 * jeff cringes whenever "manually" and "collections" are in close proximity to each other
10:58 csharp yeah - me too
10:58 csharp it's fraught with logistical and policy issues and has always been very touchy

11:14 frank_____ hi all
11:15 frank_____ does someone know if the https://bugs.launchpad.net/evergreen/+bug/1271661 bug will be fixed?
11:15 pinesol_green Launchpad bug 1271661 in Evergreen "record import matching can fail with "shared memory" PostgreSQL errors" (affected: 2, heat: 12) [Undecided,Triaged]
11:20 jboyer-isl jeff, csharp, Dyrcona: here's a zip file of the system we use. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BxJL4m6fifaxbXhYTVhKZjBWb1k/edit?usp=sharing First schema.local.sql has to be loaded, then recon_env set, then about.prep and about.report explain what's what.
11:21 jeff jboyer-isl: thanks for sharing!
11:21 csharp jboyer-isl++
11:23 jboyer-isl I should also note this system required a policy change before we could use it. Since it's so hard to de-tangle overdues and lost bills, once an item is marked lost, all money from that transaction is sent to the item's circ_lib rather than the circ's circ_lib.
11:23 yboston Hola, is there a preffered name for the new client, if there is any?  Browser Staff Client?      web-client? web client?
11:24 yboston I started a thread o  the DIG list and was not sure which term to use. berick, what do yo prefer?
11:24 yboston s/o/on/
11:24 csharp we've been calling it "the web client" internally
11:25 csharp though there may be an opportunity for branding here ;-)
11:27 dbs "Staff Client (Web)" so that eventually we can drop the (Web) part.
11:27 csharp does koha have a term for it?
11:27 dbs Or "Lean Mean Staff Client Machine" for the marketers
11:28 dbs Koha: "Staff Client" http://manual.koha-community.org/3.14/en/administration.html#staffprefs

12:05 krvmga i'm not at all clear on how to add jacket images to the opac for local authors. is there any documentation about this?
12:09 krvmga the only doc i see is about including external content and it doesn't cover this.

12:19 jeff krvmga: look at the url that the catalog uses for the jacket image -- now, make a file on disk to represent that url. that should do it. you'll probably want small/medium/large images in the correct directories.
12:20 jeff krvmga: and you might need to add some apache config to force the mime type (which might mean you would want to use the same format for every jacket image, like jpeg)
12:20 jeff i'll see if i can't help get that documented in a more useful way.
12:20 jeff in the meantime, let me know if you have more questions.
12:20 krvmga jeff: thanks. i'll give it a try.
12:22 csharp jeff: also (I've been meaning to follow up on this myself), you mentioned you have an interface that staff can log into and upload images, right?  is that code available?
12:23 krvmga has anyone (or group of someones) gotten any study together to look at the online catalog *strictly* from a patron point of view?
12:24 krvmga (by *strictly*, i mean disregarding whatever we think the patron wants/needs and just compiling data from patrons)
12:25 csharp krvmga: you mean like actual usability testing, or something else?
12:25 krvmga csharp: both usability and desire/wishlist
12:26 csharp we haven't done anything formal on the first point, but we get a "wishlist" of sorts in our PINES annual survey feedback
12:27 krvmga it seems i'm constantly running into things from the patrons that they wish they had: context sensitive help, information about holds - when the hold is place - about how the hold will be filled
12:29 krvmga on the second one, patrons might not realize, when they place a hold from the basic search returns, that all the copies listed as "available" are, in fact, only ON ORDER
12:30 dbs Lots of people have said that we should run actual usability studies and get help from a professional designer. There's very little actual followup. Although I think MassLNC has something in the works.
12:31 krvmga or, specific to cwmars case, we have consortial members who are not full circulating members, so a patron may wonder why her hold is not being filled when a library "clearly" has an available copy (except it's not really available because the library is not a circulating member)
12:31 dbs this particular problem sounds familiar, you were mentioning it yesterday or the day before?
12:32 krvmga dbs: not this particular problem, i think. or else it wasn't me mentioning it.
12:33 krvmga dbs: the last two things i brought up were local release management and eliminating the word "circulating" from hold_status.tt2
12:33 krvmga that "circulating" was a separate issue.
12:33 dbs http://irc.evergreen-ils.org/evergreen/2014-05-06#i_94939 no?
12:35 krvmga dbs: it turned out, for that guy, that he was seeing the word "circulating" when he looked at his holds when he was logged into his account. the word "circulating" is hard coded into hold_status.tt2. this gave the mistaken impression that ON ORDER copies were availabe and circulating. the issue is related tangentially to letting patrons know things like "everything is checked out now and there are 567 holds ahead of yours".
