05:48 p0ff Any advice on how to start contributing to Evergreen?  I'm not looking at GSoC.  I just want to start some sort of open source work.
05:50 paxed install it, use it a bit, see if there's anything you'd like to improve.
05:53 p0ff I haven't exactly found anything I would really want to improve, but I would want the experience of contribution even if it involves just bug fixes for now.
05:55 p0ff Does that really make sense?  I'm basically new to open source development and I'm not entirely sure if I'm going about this the right way...
06:04 paxed do you have coding experience?
06:06 paxed just go looking through the bug tracker and see if any of those seem like something you could help with.
06:28 p0ff I am decent with  c/c++, java, perl and a few other languages and can pick whatever else quick enough.
06:31 p0ff everything on the GitHub issues tracker seems to have a commit fix even though they're listed as open...
08:42 csharp launchpad_search--
08:43 csharp I'm looking for the bug on the clickable hyperlinks not eliciting alert boxes anymore... anyone know where that is?
08:43 csharp (where you copy/paste from within the staff client)
08:54 csharp finally found it: bug 1192189
08:54 pinesol_green Launchpad bug 1192189 in Evergreen "Copying in patron editor no longer produces confirmation message" (affected: 7, heat: 34) [High,In progress] https://launchpad.net/bugs/1192189 - Assigned to Ben Shum (bshum)
09:15 bshum csharp: Oh yeah, that one. Still basically undecided as far as I'm concerned (community wise). Though we're still keeping that commit reverted in our local customizations.
09:27 csharp ah
09:29 bshum The last time we brought it up for mailing list discussion, people seemed pretty divided on the issue.
09:29 jcamins Based on the conversation earlier today, it seems to me it might be a good idea to have an open "issue" on Github saying "please see Launchpad for bug database." I was going to file an issue like that, when it occurred to me that folks might not agree.
09:30 bshum jcamins: That actually sounds like it might be a good idea to do that.
09:30 jcamins bshum: okay, that's two people. Practically a quorum.
09:31 bshum Heh
09:33 bshum For a brief time I thought about why we weren't using github issues.
09:33 jcamins bshum: years of history, I'd imagine.
09:34 jcamins Possibly with some Github-isnt-FOSS thrown in.
09:34 bshum Mostly the latter I think ended up distracting me in the end.
09:35 csharp I imagine the quorum for removing the pop-up notification for the link was similarly slim
09:35 bshum Porting bugs from LP to some other (hopefully better?) bug tracker is still on my long-term wishlist.
09:35 bshum csharp: That was arguably just phasefx. If the original commit, LP bug ticket log were any indication...
09:36 bshum But the support for leaving it alone grew once it got into master and discussions ensued.
09:37 jcamins I included a few bonus links to the official git repos and the git page on the developers' wiki.
09:37 csharp it's basically a Windows (are you sure?) vs. UNIX (no feedback = success) argument
09:38 bshum jcamins++
09:38 bshum Thanks!
09:40 jcamins You're welcome. I should probably do the same for the Koha repo on Github.
09:41 bshum csharp: Well, jt definitely bothered everyone who noticed the change back when for us that we'll be highly unlikely to stop reverting itbin our system.
09:41 jcamins Oh, looks like someone disabled the issue tracker in Github for Koha. Cool.
09:41 csharp yeah - the GPLS/PINES staff are internally testing 2.5 this morning and we're discussing it
09:41 bshum (bleh, typos.... too early on a Sunday)
09:41 csharp I think we'll probably do the same
09:42 * csharp doesn't care one way or the other, but in general changes to long-standing functionality mean lots more work for us
09:44 bshum Well that's what happens when you're late to the party ;)
09:46 csharp on the other hand, it's also what happens when a single party more or less arbitrarily decides that something should be different and just changes it
09:46 csharp but that's neither here nor there
09:48 bshum Ultimately I didn't get enough consensus from the discussions in June or November last year to get a comfortable green light to revert the change or push onwards in newer directions.
09:50 bshum I'm still a fan of putting it back the way it was.  But I think folks who start out on 2.4/2.5 probably don't care.  :)
09:50 bshum At least it's a simple tweak, that doesn't carry alot of risk either way for the moment.
09:50 csharp yeah - that's the best part
09:51 csharp other changes like this have been far more involved to fix
10:15 bshum @later tell dcook Quotes from the other night were from the movie Sneakers:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3VlyZIywY9c  (around 1:23 in)
10:15 pinesol_green bshum: The operation succeeded.
11:00 * dbs spinning up a new Fedora 20 VM for commit testing & signoff
11:04 dbs somewhat amused that, starting with a minimal install that doesn't even have ifconfig installed, the opensrf makefile.install somehow pulls in vim and X
11:04 * dbs randomly blames ejabberd because, let's not kid ourselves, it is that source of most problems :)
11:05 dbs SDL. SDL!!!
11:11 dbs I was right about ejabberd, btw
11:11 dbs *sigh*
11:11 paxed *shudder*
11:22 jeff this is on fedora, right?
11:23 dbs yep
11:23 dbs dang, Net::HTTPS::Any requires either Net::SSLeay or Crypt::SSLeay and bombed during CPAN install
11:24 jeff brings back memories of making custom rpms foir things like tshark because there were no stock rpms that didn't bring in everything and the kitchen sink
11:24 * dbs guesses Business-OnlinePayment / Net-HTTPS-Any aren't declaring their deps properly. or someting,
11:24 dbs I'm sure there's a way of telling yum not to install everything
11:28 dbs wait, Net-SSLeay 1.55 is installed (and the dep is checking for 1.30 or later). meh.
11:30 * dbs tries perl-Crypt-SSLeay instead
11:30 dbs yep, happy with that. stupid CPAN
11:35 pinesol_green [evergreen|Dan Scott] Fedora: Net::SSLeay 1.55 is too new for Net::HTTPS::Any - <http://git.evergreen-ils.org/?p=Evergreen.git;a=commit;h=995636b>

14:06 dbs oh goody, looks like "firewall-cmd --add-service=http; firewall-cmd --add-service=https" might be necessary for a minimal install of Fedora too
14:06 dbs *very* secure by default
