04:43 bshum csharp: That sort of thing used to happen with old QP (2.3 or older) where multiple field use in advanced search filters sometimes confused things to breakage.
04:44 bshum csharp: Or so I vaguely remember. I think it happens less so since our upgrade into the 2.4 era but I'll try looking into that for you once I get back to the office.

07:43 dbs @later tell jboyer-isl px are generally what you want, because they are _not_ physical pixels, but adjust relative to the density of the display
07:43 pinesol_green dbs: The operation succeeded.
07:47 paxed dbs: re. bug 1195334, i'm wondering if me attaching pictures of before/after help ...
07:47 pinesol_green Launchpad bug 1195334 in Evergreen "Some data URIs don't define character set" (affected: 1, heat: 6) [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/1195334
07:47 dbs paxed: a major part of the value of review & sign-off is reproducing the before / after behaviour in a separate environment, as well as ensuring nothing else breaks unexpectedly as a result. so, not really :/
07:48 * dbs is enjoying Canada Day, apparently
07:51 paxed dbs: disheartening.
07:53 dbs paxed: it's a time vs. quality thing. We keep on seeing what happens when we push commits that "look good" without actually testing them.
07:53 dbs Or testing them in a very limited way. And testing in production, really, really sucks for the community.
07:54 csharp bshum: thanks!
07:57 csharp dbs: happy Canada Day!
07:58 csharp not a holiday I take it? ;-)
07:58 paxed dbs: so what can i do to help?
07:58 dbs csharp: holiday. kids are watching cartoons, I'm not able to sleep in (at family's place in downtown TO)
07:59 jboyer-isl joined #evergreen
08:00 dbs paxed: you're doing all the right things. In my opinion, the almost purely manual QA review / signoff process that we have (such as it is) is unsustainable
08:01 csharp dbs: ah - I see ;-)
08:03 jasonb-iph joined #evergreen
08:03 jcamins dbs: have you looked at things like gerritt?
08:06 dbs jcamins: it's more about testing & reproducing UI behaviour (selenium etc) than code review tools
08:07 Dyrcona joined #evergreen
08:08 jcamins dbs: ah. We have both problems with Koha.
08:10 dbs for example, paxed has a patch that affects 8 or so different dialogues in the staff client. testing that means setting up a clean testing environment, reproducing the problem conditions (possibily requiring setup of special data to provoke the problem), setting up the test env + patch, reproducing the corrected scenarios... and all of that gives us no guarantee that other scenarios haven't been negatively affected by the patch
08:10 dbs jcamins: I'm not saying gerritt or the like wouldn't be helpful, just a different problem :)

11:31 paxed any idea why i'd get "Error: not well-formed" complaints about auth.properties (and other message catalog files)? all complaints on the first line of the file, where the '=' sign is.
11:37 rfrasur paxed:it's slow this morning - and you know that I couldn't even buy an idea about that to give you.
11:43 paxed rfrasur: yes, i can see it's slow. :/
11:43 rfrasur wish I could help :( - I wonder if this might be the week of the vacation as well.
11:46 paxed and some people are at the ALA conference, i'd guess
11:46 rfrasur true true
11:47 rfrasur klussier is.  Not sure beyond her.
11:48 jboyer-isl Do you mean the errors in the XULRunner console? Those have always driven me nuts, though they don't appear to acutally cause problems. It's possible that it would be happier if they were quoted, I suppose.

12:28 rfrasur meh
12:28 * rfrasur is exceptionally cheap about some things so okay with being persuaded at times to be less stingy
12:31 rfrasur well, I guess while we're waiting on EG, I can do other stuff.

12:51 rfrasur err....apparently EVERY important computer system refuses to work with me today
12:53 bshum rfrasur: Sounds about right to me.
12:53 rfrasur bshum: chocolate might not be enough
12:55 * rfrasur ponders next sane course of action.
12:56 paxed meh. no action here today for me, so i'll log off work. not to mention that datepicker crap is starting to annoy me ...
12:56 rfrasur yeah...no.  this is freakin' insane.  Is it because it's the first day of the fiscal year somewhere?
12:57 Dyrcona paxed: We've had that discussion about Sunday before.....
12:58 paxed Dyrcona: yes. it just seems none of the workarounds suggested eg. on moz's bugzilla work.
12:59 paxed don't know if the xul datepicker code is changed, or what.
13:00 Dyrcona It should be an option: "conforms to ISO standard whatever," "bat-shit insane thing based on Roman tradition."
13:01 * rfrasur laughs and cries at the same time while mumbling something about mothers and all that
13:02 rfrasur (maybe reorganizing the basement is a good idea)
13:08 * bshum watches the rain outside and listens to the distant voices of people working on our broken network.
13:10 rfrasur it wants to rain here...but that's not working either, so it's just grey (gray)
13:10 bshum @eightball WIll the rain stop today?

13:16 rfrasur bshum: is your issue the servers moving?
13:16 bshum rfrasur: We moved them yesterday to the new rack space and they seemed fine.  Today we were getting all sorts of dropped network packets.
13:17 bshum I was concerned so I decided to make an executive decision to halt Evergreen till the network folks have a crack at figuring out the issues.
13:17 rfrasur meh - poor network people.  Good decision on your part
13:21 bshum Figured safer than sorry if there was some fluke that caused unexpected behavior with the system.
13:21 bshum Though I like to believe we're safe from that.
13:22 rfrasur safe from unexpected behavior?
13:22 bshum Well, I worry about things like incomplete actions taken with Evergreen, but they should just error out if they take too long to complete or never complete properly.  I think.
13:23 bshum I think it would just be worse if a call was made to check something in and because of network issues, it didn't actually do so.  And then the library calls us later going, but why didn't it check in?!?!
13:23 bshum Or something.
13:23 * bshum imagines they'd get more network errors though.
13:23 bshum Eh, playing it safe.
13:23 rfrasur you made the right decision especially if you didn't want a bunch of panicking librarians breathing down your neck.
13:27 mrpeters is there a way to emulate an opac search with srfsh?

13:37 Dyrcona I love that "Request completed successfully" after a giant "No it didn't."
13:39 Dyrcona "no connection to the server" makes me wonder, is everything configured properly on the computer where you're running srfsh?
13:42 adbowling-isl joined #evergreen
13:42 mrpeters from what i hear, the database went into some kind of "recovery mode"....im kind of distanced from the whole thing, but this was a general question i could ask
13:43 rfrasur adbowling-isl: good to see you.  Hope you are well....
13:46 eeevil mrpeters: if that's what you hear, you can stop any evergreen-level work until that's resolved
13:47 mrpeters yeah, from what i know all activity has ceased
13:47 mrpeters i dont think the database is still in recovery mode though
13:47 rfrasur that sounds a lot like death or coma
13:48 mrpeters no more errors in the logs about it being in recovery mode
13:48 adbowling-isl db is not in recovery mode anymore, as far as i can tell
13:48 Dyrcona recovery mode is what usually happens after the coma.
13:48 Dyrcona mrpeters: Are the OpenSRF services all running?
13:49 Dyrcona Those will need a restart at least.
13:49 mrpeters yeah
13:50 mrpeters http://pastie.org/8100643
13:50 adbowling-isl all services restarted.  db server was rebooted.
13:50 mrpeters does that look more sane?  though it takes 70+ seconds to return

14:25 * rfrasur sings quietly so that the mean July 1st gods don't hear and decide to ruin it, "woohoo...getting stuff done...woohoo...not in Evergreen, but that's okay...for now"
14:25 rfrasur It's not a very famous song.
14:32 csharp I shared this error in the channel yesterday and I'm trying to troubleshoot it http://pastebin.com/ByE2GNYU
14:32 csharp it's coming once every few seconds, so it doesn't look like a random patron search

15:29 rfrasur and also New Years Eve and Day (though I think we should be open part of New Years Eve)
15:29 rfrasur there are some, yes.

15:30 rfrasur or, in our case, health insurance
15:30 rfrasur lol
15:30 rfrasur so, it seems to balance a little away from our favor
15:30 jcamins As a state employee, my wife got amazing health insurance. No raises, but neither did anyone else I know.
15:33 rfrasur yeah, it's different at the state level.  We could potentially get in on the county health insurance, but it'd be prohibitively expensive and since I'm the only one that'd be eligible (only full-time staff), the board has chosen to forego it.  It's okay since we have it through my husband's work, but it's also pretty asinine in principle.
15:34 jcamins rfrasur: city/town employees aren't a subset of state employees?
15:34 rfrasur nope
15:34 * jcamins thought they were.
15:35 rfrasur nope...and we're not a subset of city/town/county employees either.
