09:48 Dyrcona kmlussier: I think it should be simple. The error suggests that some alter table statements come after some updates and inserts. Changing the order of the statements should fix it.

12:50 krvmga do we have any way to give the data that appears in 100 a of the MARC record greater weight in search results?
12:51 Ruth joined #evergreen
12:51 kmlussier krvmga: Yes. In an author search?
12:51 jcamins I actually know that... QueryParser supports relevance bumps which you could use to... errr... bump the relevance of that particular index.
12:51 krvmga kmlussier: yes
12:51 jcamins I don't know how to do it, though.
12:51 jcamins Just that you can do it.
12:52 kmlussier Add an index specifically for marc tag 100a using the author class and give it a higher weight. config.metabib_field, but there is also a staff client interface for it.
12:52 kmlussier krvmga: There's also a magic spell for populating that index too.

13:15 rfrasur Does anyone know if digital microfilm readers function like scanners?
13:16 jcamins rfrasur: I think you need special software for a lot of them.
13:17 rfrasur yes...but the hardware...is it the same principle?
13:17 jcamins Oh.
13:17 jcamins That I don't know.
13:18 jcamins I just put the microfilm in the reader, click the scan button in the software, and walk away with my scans on a USB drive.
13:18 rfrasur hmm, I think it's vaguely diff
13:18 rfrasur well, we're a little pieced together in our lib...a borrowed digital reader that only runs on win98 and earlier
13:18 rfrasur hmm, that's not right.  xp
13:19 rfrasur and a less than intuitive interface
13:19 rfrasur (and a REALLY old box)
13:19 jcamins I think I may have been simplifying somewhat.
13:19 rfrasur but I don't want to spend $10k+ to replace the entire set-up
13:20 jcamins There's got to be a less-expensive option...
13:20 rfrasur I appreciate simplification...even if it's a little extreme
13:20 rfrasur agreed, but haven't found it yet.
13:21 rfrasur am thinking I can put a kid through college to get a comp prog degree before I'll find the cheap version.
13:22 jcamins A former employer had looked into getting a new microfilm reader, and I think the cost was somewhere in the $4k range, though since you're in a public library you might need something a little more robust than they were looking at.
13:22 rfrasur the reader itself is generally around $8k (new), but then you start adding on carriages (which you'd think would be included) and this or that lens...
13:23 rfrasur and the computer to power the whole deal
13:23 rfrasur (and a desk and a chair)
13:23 rfrasur we do have a good surge protector though...so that's a bonus :p
13:24 jcamins Hehe.
13:25 rfrasur they're so stinkin' basic though.  I honestly dunno why they cost so much...other than being price-chained by optics companies.  That's all I can think.
13:25 jcamins We should make one.
13:25 rfrasur agreed
13:25 rfrasur I have an analog machine and a digital machine we can use for parts
13:26 * rfrasur will throw in solder
13:26 jcamins Hehe.
13:27 gmcharlt the tragedy of the niche market
13:27 rfrasur I dunno why we can't have the whole shabang digitized anyway.  Mirror the whole collection and get rid of the films
13:27 rfrasur gmcharlt++
13:28 ldwhalen joined #evergreen
13:29 jcamins Aside from the fact that it wouldn't be an effective use of time, there's really no reason you couldn't make a scanner out of a digital camera, a lense, a light, and a microfilm spindle mechanism.
13:29 * gmcharlt idly wonders if the CIA's WWII archive is a cup ful of microdots
13:29 rfrasur except the gov doesn't recognize digi files as archival media
13:29 rfrasur jcamins++
13:30 jcamins That's the sort of hardware hacking project I always wished I had the ability to do.
13:30 rfrasur Maybe our lib should sponsor a "maker contest" and see if someone in town can build us a microfilm reader using the parts we have that can be powered by win7+ (or heck...some *nix)
13:31 * rfrasur also thinks "maker" anything should be stricken from lib language forever.
13:31 jcamins Call it a "build-off."
13:32 * rfrasur chuckles

13:32 jcamins And make releasing the design under some sort of open source license a requirement.
13:32 rfrasur I'm way too immature to be the one to name it anything
13:32 rfrasur but that is a good idea...except we have 2.5k cardholders.  Small pool.  But not impossible?  But maybe.
13:34 rfrasur ahh...this is the reader we have.  An ImageMouse that's no longer in production and whose drivers are no longer being updated (for that reason).  I virtually begged the guy that initially developed it.  He said, "No," but nicely.
13:34 jcamins I guess probably the most workable solution would be an SLR + mount.
13:35 rfrasur I think, with time invested, the cost would end up growing pretty quickly.
13:35 * rfrasur may just write a stinkin' grant.
13:36 rfrasur just
13:36 rfrasur because of all the extra money floating around...
13:36 rfrasur nowhere
13:36 jcamins Yep.
13:36 jcamins That's why it wouldn't actually make sense to build your own. But it's a cool idea.
13:36 rfrasur yep
13:37 paxed you could sponsor a linux driver dev ... :P
13:37 rfrasur paxed:I'd love to, but I can barely spell linux (thanks for the reference)
13:38 rfrasur our lib could have the "built it and we'll steal it but we'll give you credit" dev contest
13:39 rfrasur or the "this will look good on your resume...really" dev contest
13:39 rfrasur or the "just make it work or we'll cry" dev contest

15:41 Dyrcona dbwells: May I draw your attention to bug 1015299?
15:41 pinesol_green Launchpad bug 1015299 in Evergreen 2.4 "Purge Circulations function does not work and has other issues" (affected: 2, heat: 10) [Undecided,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/1015299
15:45 dbwells Dyrcona: since only the last commit is missing a sign-off, I can sign-off on just that and push the whole thing.  Does that work for you?
15:45 Dyrcona dbwells: It sure does!
15:46 Dyrcona It has an upgrade script, too.
15:48 Dyrcona Oh! There will be a conflict with purge holds in Open-ILS/src/Makefile.am.

15:56 Dyrcona cool! My boss and our members will be pleased!
15:59 mrpeters can anyone tell me where the "MAILING" or "BILLING" radio box values are stored in the database?
16:00 bshum mrpeters: Pretty sure that's controlled by the actor.usr table
16:00 bshum To create a link between the user and the address
16:00 mrpeters damn
16:00 bshum So you can't have more than one mailing or billing
16:00 bshum But you could have tons of addresses
16:01 mrpeters so its mailing_address / billing_adddress in actor.usr
16:01 bshum Right.
16:01 mrpeters hah,, this makes it super easy
16:01 mrpeters SELECT * FROM actor.usr WHERE billing_address IS NULL and mailing_address IS NOT NULL;
16:01 bshum Sure.
16:04 kmlussier dbwells++ Dyrcona's boss and members aren't the only ones who will be pleased. :)
