For the record: Switching from Redis to Ejabberd on the dev system only took about half an hour. |
10:03 |
Dyrcona |
Several minutes of that was implementing some code to generate random passwords in my editor. :) |
10:04 |
berick |
Dyrcona: what's the motivation? are you still having issues? |
10:05 |
Dyrcona |
berick: Yes. Some things are still slow and staff want to compare Ejabberd with Redis. |
10:05 |
berick |
as in, stuff got slower when you migrated to redis? |
10:06 |
berick |
or just trying to rule stuff out |
10:06 |
Dyrcona |
berick: That's the report. The library settings editor got slower, but that happened after applying 3.14.2 according the exact details. |
10:07 |
Dyrcona |
So, that might not be Redis. |
10:08 |
Dyrcona |
Switching back to Redis should be quicker, since I only have to copy opensrf_core.xml and not edit it with new passwords. |
10:08 |
Dyrcona |
I don't know if we'll switch back or leave it as is for now. |
10:10 |
berick |
gotcha |
10:11 |
Dyrcona |
It looks like we'll stick with Ejabberd when we upgrade in April, so they also want to test with what we'll be using. |
10:20 |
Dyrcona |
Well, Ejabberd did not fix the library settings editor. |
10:28 |
Dyrcona |
I may end building eg2 again, perhaps after a clean. |

And, I did rebuild eg2 after a git clean. I made sure to use `npm ci` and not `npm install` this time. Maybe some package getting updated was the problem? |

Dyrcona++ # thanks for stamping that upgrade script! |
11:12 |
Dyrcona |
sandbergja: YW! I would have done a better job, but I noticed just as we were starting our Yahtzee match at home. :) |
11:12 |
Dyrcona |
So, I was distracted. |
11:13 |

fun! |

@decide Yahtzee or stamping upgrades |
11:16 |

11:16 |

11:17 |

11:18 |

Dyrcona: go with skip it |
11:18 |
Dyrcona |
pinesol: I knew you'd say that, but that's no fun.... |
11:18 |
pinesol |
Dyrcona: As great as you are man, you'll never be greater than yourself. |
11:19 |
Dyrcona |

11:19 |
pinesol |
Dyrcona: Have you run autogen.sh? |
11:19 |
Dyrcona |
I did! |
11:20 |
Dyrcona |
So, that reminds me. The problem seems to be that the settings editor gets really slow/unusable if staff try to filter or change location. Thing is, almost the exact same code on another vm does not have this problem. It's running Redis, too. |
11:21 |
Dyrcona |
Oh. This is 3.14.2, and switching to Ejabberd didn't make a difference, neither did rebuilding the Angular client and reinstalling. Should I rebuild AngularJS? |
11:22 |
Dyrcona |
@decide rebuild AngularJS or no |
11:22 |
pinesol |
Dyrcona: go with rebuild AngularJS |
11:22 |
Dyrcona |
I knew you'd say that, too. :) |

12:37 |
Dyrcona |
@eightball Should I hang it up and go home? |
12:37 |
pinesol |
Dyrcona: What are you asking me for? |
12:44 |
Dyrcona |
The dev server has been using less swap since I switched it to Ejabberd, but I didn't really pay attention to what it was this morning before I made the change. It could be unrelated. |
12:44 |
Dyrcona |
It will probably go up when/if I restart scheduled jobs. |

thinking out loud and wondering what effect it would have to have a "target_billing" field on money.payment so payments towards partial balances go to the intended bill |
16:36 |
csharp_ |
current use case: batch forgive payments on processing fees, but not the fines or lost/longoverdue charges |
16:37 |
csharp_ |
offset payments are making me titchy |
16:38 |
csharp_ |
the UI kind of implies that payments are affecting certain billings |
16:38 |
csharp_ |
anyway, gonna do my best with the Evergreen we have, not the Evergreen we wish we had |
16:38 |
csharp_ |
so to speak :-) |

thought of that bug, but IIRC, it attempts to allocate payments to billings after the fact, not allow targeting specific billings. Haven't looked at it in a while, though. |
