10:02 Dyrcona For the record: Switching from Redis to Ejabberd on the dev system only took about half an hour.
10:03 Dyrcona Several minutes of that was implementing some code to generate random passwords in my editor. :)
10:04 berick Dyrcona: what's the motivation?  are you still having issues?
10:05 Dyrcona berick: Yes. Some things are still slow and staff want to compare Ejabberd with Redis.
10:05 berick as in, stuff got slower when you migrated to redis?
10:06 berick or just trying to rule stuff out
10:06 Dyrcona berick: That's the report. The library settings editor got slower, but that happened after applying 3.14.2 according the exact details.
10:07 Dyrcona So, that might not be Redis.
10:08 Dyrcona Switching back to Redis should be quicker, since I only have to copy opensrf_core.xml and not edit it with new passwords.
10:08 Dyrcona I don't know if we'll switch back or leave it as is for now.
10:10 berick gotcha
10:11 Dyrcona It looks like we'll stick with Ejabberd when we upgrade in April, so they also want to test with what we'll be using.
10:20 Dyrcona Well, Ejabberd did not fix the library settings editor.
10:28 Dyrcona I may end building eg2 again, perhaps after a clean.
10:32 sandbergja joined #evergreen
10:47 Dyrcona And, I did rebuild eg2 after a git clean. I made sure to use `npm ci` and not `npm install` this time. Maybe some package getting updated was the problem?
10:48 Dyrcona Bug 2089160
10:48 pinesol Launchpad bug 2089160 in Evergreen 3.13 "Recommend npm ci in developer installation instructions" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/2089160
11:01 sandbergja Dyrcona++ # thanks for stamping that upgrade script!
11:12 Dyrcona sandbergja: YW! I would have done a better job, but I noticed just as we were starting our Yahtzee match at home. :)
11:12 Dyrcona So, I was distracted.
11:13 sandbergja fun!
11:16 csharp_ @decide Yahtzee or stamping upgrades
11:16 pinesol csharp_: go with Yahtzee
11:16 csharp_ pinesol: looks like that's what Dyrcona did
11:16 pinesol csharp_: DO YOU WANT TO PLAY A GAME?
11:16 csharp_ pinesol: not Yahtzee, probably
11:16 pinesol csharp_: if you type google into Google, you'll break the internet
11:17 Dyrcona :)
11:17 Dyrcona pinesol: What happens if you insert a macro into a macro?
11:17 pinesol Dyrcona: Can't locate Snark.pm in @INC
11:18 Dyrcona @decide convert macros to older emacs or skip it
11:18 pinesol Dyrcona: go with skip it
11:18 Dyrcona pinesol: I knew you'd say that, but that's no fun....
11:18 pinesol Dyrcona: As great as you are man, you'll never be greater than yourself.
11:19 Dyrcona pinesol: Do you wish you were Bob Dylan? I wish I were someone a little more funky.
11:19 pinesol Dyrcona: Have you run autogen.sh?
11:19 Dyrcona I did!
11:20 Dyrcona So, that reminds me. The problem seems to be that the settings editor gets really slow/unusable if staff try to filter or change location. Thing is, almost the exact same code on another vm does not have this problem. It's running Redis, too.
11:21 Dyrcona Oh. This is 3.14.2, and switching to Ejabberd didn't make a difference, neither did rebuilding the Angular client and reinstalling. Should I rebuild AngularJS?
11:22 Dyrcona @decide rebuild AngularJS or no
11:22 pinesol Dyrcona: go with rebuild AngularJS
11:22 Dyrcona I knew you'd say that, too. :)

12:36 Dyrcona @eightball Should I upgrade the work laptop to Ubuntu 24.04?
12:36 pinesol Dyrcona: NO!
12:36 Dyrcona :)
12:36 Dyrcona @eightball: The camera stopped working on 22.04, so what's the difference?
12:36 pinesol Dyrcona: if you type google into Google, you'll break the internet
12:37 Dyrcona Oof...
12:37 Dyrcona @eightball Should I hang it up and go home?
12:37 pinesol Dyrcona: What are you asking me for?
12:44 Dyrcona The dev server has been using less swap since I switched it to Ejabberd, but I didn't really pay attention to what it was this morning before I made the change. It could be unrelated.
12:44 Dyrcona It will probably go up when/if I restart scheduled jobs.

16:35 csharp_ thinking out loud and wondering what effect it would have to have a "target_billing" field on money.payment so payments towards partial balances go to the intended bill
16:36 csharp_ current use case: batch forgive payments on processing fees, but not the fines or lost/longoverdue charges
16:37 csharp_ offset payments are making me titchy
16:38 csharp_ the UI kind of implies that payments are affecting certain billings
16:38 csharp_ anyway, gonna do my best with the Evergreen we have, not the Evergreen we wish we had
16:38 csharp_ so to speak :-)
16:40 mmorgan csharp_: Interesting thought! Can't quite wrap my brain around it this late in the day, but it would be worth thinking about.
16:50 berick csharp_: https://bugs.launchpad.net/evergreen/+bug/1174498
16:50 pinesol Launchpad bug 1174498 in Evergreen "Payment by billing type breakdown" [Wishlist,Confirmed] - Assigned to Jeff Godin (jgodin)
16:55 * mmorgan thought of that bug, but IIRC, it attempts to allocate payments to billings after the fact, not allow targeting specific billings. Haven't looked at it in a while, though.
16:58 csharp_ thanks y'all - I'll peruse that
17:07 Bmagic csharp_: what berick said. <I wrote a bunch of stuff here and deleted it. The bug has everything you need>
17:11 mmorgan left #evergreen
17:24 * jeff eyes ye olde bug again
17:25 jeff I've needed balance owed by billing type recently, also.
