So much for taking my holiday, today. |

Quel désastre! |
08:23 |
JBoyer |
Dyrcona, sounds like things could be better? |

Yeah, I could have won the Powerball yesterday instead of you winning it. :P |

But, yeah, issues all week. |

This week we won the lottery twice, should have upgraded to opensrf-2.4.2 as soon as it was released. What are the odds of staff typoing their usernames just right in two consecutive days, after not seeing the issue for months. |

I've been noticing that the cricket wireless email->sms gateway doesn't seem to work. Has anyone else looked into sms.mycricket.com? |
09:04 |
jeff |
email to sms gateways are terribly unreliable and change in ways that are poorly documented even within the provider's (or the provider's provider's) systems. |
09:05 |
JBoyer |
Stompro, are there multiple gateways for Cricket? I've seen that with some carriers where if you have a CDMA phone it's one gateway, GSM is another, etc. |
09:05 |
jeff |
which I know sounds like I'm not sympathetic to your issue... sorry. |
09:05 |
JBoyer |
We also have some AT&T messaging thing that isn't possible to even use in the list, I've turned on some of the bounces and you have to auth to send anything, so that's right out. :/ |
09:12 |
Stompro |
jeff, no worries, I'm looking at setting up sms notification to use flowroute, our current sip provider so we don't need to deal with the gateways. |

JBoyer, I've seen some others listed in discussions. But they all seem to have gotchas, like that they only work for smartphones with data plans. |
09:15 |
kmlussier |
gmcharlt: I forget, when do we create the rel_2_12 branch? Is that done during the .0 release? |
09:16 |
gmcharlt |
kmlussier: it's typically done when cutting the RC or .0, but can be done earlier if there's a need to start pushing enhacements to master that aren't for 2.12. |
09:16 |

sms.cricketwireless.com exists, but I cannot get an smtp connection to work. mms.cricketwireless.com has been reported to work on random internet forms, but resolves to the same IP as sms.cricketwireless.com... so. |
09:16 |
kmlussier |
gmcharlt: OK, thanks! |
09:18 |

Maybe the cricket sms gateway is running on someone's laptop and they got fired. "Seems to work, lets put it in production right now, you leave your laptop running, right?" |

Stompro: we use Twilio for SMS notifications. Happy to compare notes if you're looking at flowroute. |

jeff, I started Bug 1667080 for my efforts on it. Do you do anything with replies to sms message, like send back an auto-response saying "Please call your branch if you would like to discuss this issue." |

jeff, or maybe the callback script could look up the patron info for staff, so an email could contain enough info for staff to respond.... |
09:44 |
JBoyer |
It's very pie in the sky, but there was a brief period that I entertained buying a GSM modem and super cheap cell plan for the servers so we could do bidirectional SMS messaging, and allow patrons to ask how many items were out and renew them if needed. It went the way of most PItS ideas. :/ |

mmm, lightning talk idea: secure your Evergreen catalogue for free with letsencrypt / certbot (okay it's not a catchy title) |
09:50 |

well, i suppose it all depends on the context. |

09:50 |
jeff |
pretty sure that will be covered in at least a preconf. :-) |
09:51 |
dbs |
good good! |
09:51 |
jeff |
but i'm also interested in making out-of-the box not use a self-signed cert, at least presenting the option of "would you like to get a cert for this hostname? you should be aware of caveat one and two and three..." |
09:52 |
jeff |
Stompro: yeah, we're hoping to do more two-way texting also. |
09:52 |
jeff |
Stompro: reply with "renew" to a pre-overdue/overdue text to renew those items that are overdue/soon-due, cancel a hold, etc. |
09:52 |
dbs |
jeff: yeah, wasn't sure if you and gmcharlt would get right into certbot or not. very good! |
09:53 |
jeff |
Stompro: can't use "STOP" as a keyword, and you do need to be careful about volume and sameness... |
09:55 |
jeff |
Stompro: ah, I thought I had run into that before... "CANCEL" is also reserved unless you're shelling out the big bucks for a shortcode. |
10:13 |
jeff |
i think caveat one or caveat two would be "this almost immediately announces your hostname to the world" :-) |
10:13 |
jeff |

+1 to the integrated certbot. I just switched us over this spring since startssl got banned, and getting the DNS-01 validation check setup was a little tricky, but works great. I don't like the HTTP-01 method, since I like having a central spot to manage the certs. |

Has anyone setup the ability to checkout Missing status items at your self checks? It looks like I need to allow the auto override of "COPY_NOT_AVAILABLE" event and then list which statuses should still be blocked in the "Block Copy Checkout Status" org unit setting, which I'm assuming is a comma seperated list of numbers. Are there any gotchas to that? |

Looks really interesting |
12:25 |
Stompro |
JBoyer, I still think the DNS-01 auth is way simpler, and it works for non public services that you want a real certificate for. There is no need to setup the proxying on each server. (Of course only if your dns provider has an api) |
12:26 |
JBoyer |
True, if you've already got DNS working there's no need to switch, but if you |
12:27 |

re stuck with HTTP this is a simple way to keep it all in one place. |

More for the logs than anything else. :) |

Ah, re: SMS gateways, the AT&T one I mentioned earlier was smartmessagingsuite.com, it requires authentication so every SMS sent to that provider fails every time. :/ |
12:33 |
Stompro |
JBoyer, Is that the one where the bounce message gives no clue to which provider or what message... I think I remember looking at that. |
12:36 |
JBoyer |
Pretty much. I just get a generic failure notice from Email2SMSAdmin at generalsmartmessagingsuite.com saying something didn't work. I only know it's related to AT&T because it's their site. Could be used by MVNOs or enterprise only accounts for all I know. :/ |

JBoyer, a probably most of the time a customer is just picking it because it starts with AT&T... I really need to get away from the email to sms gateways... to many points of failure. |

+1 to that. |

hello! just wanted to say thanks for all the help i've gotten in general from the great members of this channel and community. i'm moving on to a non-library role for my next gig, but hopefully you'll be seeing my replacement in here soon and i'll still be hanging out from time to time. many times the help i've gotten in here and the listserv has saved my bacon, so thanks again! |
